That is pretty awesome.  The next step is getting us mentioned in a TV interview...

Actually, no time for that. Vocab list, database, translation program, wiki, and forum to maintain. :P)

QuoteJust when you think it doesn't get any more real, it just did: learn the Na'vi language, which was developed by professor Frommer. I found a whole websites about the Na'vi langauge. Learn about the grammer, vocabulary and more. Eat the 'kxani kxener', or: forbidden fruit! And did you know 'Omaticaya' really means 'blue flute clan'? Damn, I should have meant 'blue axe-in.your-face clan'. Flute people. Anyway, see for yourself and beat those Klingons at your Na'vi.

http://www.digitaleleinwand.de/2009/12/23/fuer-alle-avatar-fans-lernt-navi/  [this is huge.]
Roughly translated from German:
Quote
For all Avatar Fans: Learn Na'vi!
The original inhabitants from Pandora obviously speak their own language, named after themselves: Na'vi." It is no surprise that James Cameron also practices perfectionism here, and rather than creating alien-sounding chunks, outsourced the creation of a language:  Dr. Paul Frommer, with a PhD in linguistics, and a professor at the University of Southern California.

Now you can delve deep into the language and learn it. The website http://www.learnnavi.org displays a wide range of information about phonology, ontology, alongside grammar and vocab. The Pocket-Guide gives a rough overview for on-the-go (you never know when you'll quickly have to go to Pandora). Of course, a forum also exists for exchanging ideas.

The language, like many other aspects of AVATAR, is a mixture of the known and something entirely new. "The Na'vi reach certain barriers with specific sounds," [transl.] Professor Frommer explains. "This is what allows the scientists of the Avatar Program to learn and speak the language."[transl.]

Cameron informed Frommer about the tonal structure he envisioned for the Na'vi early on in preproduction. From this, Frommer created a linguistic pallet. "The main goal was to give Jim certain options," [transl.] Frommer explained. "He liked certain sounds; others not. From there, we established a structure for the language, rules for pronunciation, and the vocabulary."

The result of this complex process is the creation of over a thousand words, and a specific structure and grammar. All of this, the actors had to learn quickly. They worked with dialect-coach Carla Meyer for the finetuning of the dialect in the invented language.

The linguistic challenge was even greater for Sam Worthington, a native Australian who, on top of perfecting an American accent, had to learn an entirely new language. "It seemed like I had to learn two language," [transl.] he recalls. "One thing I know for sure: Na'vi was way easier than the American accent! I worked at least two hours daily on each. I dissected the language phonetically, so that it didn't seem like I was speaking through gauze." Worthington also noted that Jake was also struggling to master the language. This made the occasional linguistic slip-up not only excusable, but necessary.

Zoë Saldana und Laz Alonso, both well-versed in the English language, struggled less while tring to learn the Na'vi language, and perhaps left the Avatar set as the only trilingual actors who fluently spoke Na'vi. The film crew seemed to have most fun of all, who teased each other with certain words. A favorite was "skowng," [yep, they misspelled it] the Na'vi word for "moron."

And with this, I'd like to tell all readers "Oel ngati kameie!"

In under a week, learnnavi.org has already gotten onto a bunch of websites...

I've ran the numbers. It's all going to be great.
Failure is the mother of success.
Soon, we will no longer be the leaves on the wind, but the wind itself.
You don't have to be a scholar to be a leader.
Join the real life Na'vi tribe here  (And yes, it will be a real tribe in the real world, NOT a role play tribe!)

This, combined with daily (insert social networking site) updates from members is great PR and advertising.

Astounding is correct. We're slowly seeping into legitimate Avatar reviews as well.

QuoteAnd last but not least, if you really want to geek out, you can actually learn the language of the Na'vi on a new website that launched: LearnNavi.org. It's not an official Fox website, but they've put together guides and dictionaries of the Na'vi language (that contains roughly 1000 words). Yep, Cameron had USC professor Paul Frommer create a real language for the Na'vi to use in Avatar. Head over to that website to learn more.

Man, were more contagious than the cold...just...more helpful. The more online publicity we get from real review sites, the more at attract people and let them know where here to help. :D I do love helping people.
