I wish I could take the time to do one.  I just don't have the time it would take to make one.

     IRAYO!

If people want, when I make mine, I'll also make a simple template that people can copy-pasta their text into. Something tells me though that this isn't going to have too much turnout, people seem to be really lazy when it comes to things like this.

Toruk Makto

Although nobody asked, I think that the greetings need to be created by the individual. Copy pasta can be so impersonal. :(

I just hope that people will see it for the opportunity that it is. This is a way for K. Pawl to DIRECTLY learn who they are. When they post comments on his blog, for example, he'll KNOW something of the person if/when he responds. If they send him an e-mail out of the blue, it won't be from a STRANGER, but rather from a member of the community whom he recognizes and REMEMBERS from the effort it took to participate in this slide show.

At some point for some reason in the many months ago past Tsm. Markì sent K. Pawl a card (in the snail mail). It made a TREMENDOUS impression on him. He made a point of telling me how much. I don't know what the card was for, but Karyu was duly impressed with it.

Most folks these days have super high-resolution digital photos coming out of their ears.

Is it really that much effort to crop something with a pre-provided template and slap "IRAYO" on the upper corner and "ta so-and-so" on another?

I personally can't volunteer to do it 'cause I have too much work to cope with in the next few days, but maybe someone else has the time and beneficence to volunteer to be a "production specialist" for those who ain't go no skillz with GIMP or Photoshop ??

Also, do we need translations of this "opportunity" posted in the other language fora?

It's not, but (at least for my part), I'll either do it properly or not at all because the recipient usually sees whether or not the sender meant it sincerely.
That's a bit like those fully pre-printed greeting cards: Whenever I get one where the only handwritten thing is a "Love, XXX", I get the feeling of that card just being another item on a checklist of boring tasks that have to be done.

But that's really a very personal (or even cultural) thing, but it could explain why you haven't received a lot of submissions yet.

It's really not that hard.  My time problems come from my ridiculously BUSY schedule and the fact that I have GIMP which I haven't really gotten the chance (back to that ridiculous schedule) to figure out how it works.
I am going to try to get one done tomorrow, but I have a BIG group project for school due on Tuesday and I already had plans for tomorrow anyway.  I'm working on borrowed time.  Mostly the time is borrowed from sleeping tomorrow night.  Considering that I'm 44 and haven't slept more than an hour a night in the past week, I think I'm doing pretty good.

I still have to make my own first, but if people are very specific about what they want (so that I don't have to do any creative stuff and I can just stick things together), I can volunteer to do this. I don't have time for huge art projects though, I've got enough of those lined up.

Please someone ELSE give this lovely woman some MORE APPLAUSE!

Thank you so much.

You've just put yourself on the register for sainthood on Pandora!!

Very much looking forward to seeing your card too!

IRAYO NÌTXAN!!

Maria TunVrrtep

Definitely.  I'm doing that now Prrton.

My comment was meant more to say that I really barely have time to sleep let alone do this, even though I'd love to.  I really wish I could get it done myself, but between trying to learn GIMP and the rest of my schedule, I'm not sure when I would sleep.  I literally have to schedule sleep and showers so I get them.  I'm not joking about that.

Make sure you use the latest version of GIMP, and use the template on a post on page 1. That will teach you really quick how to work with layers. It took me about half an hour to make my card, and I would consider myself to be an intermediate GIMP user. I used a nice image, and added just enough text to say who I am, my view on things (lions in this case- I used an image of myself working with one of our lions), and a name caption for the lion. No story, no poetry, etc. You don't necessarily need those things.

Good luck with yours!

I read that you wont have Internet access.
When i do some work or research i often use wikipedia. So i thought you could need it too in some situations.

There is a way to use wikipedia offline:
the application:
http://www.wikitaxi.org/delphi/doku.php/products/wikitaxi/index

the newest english wikipedia database:
http://download.wikimedia.org/enwiki/20100916/enwiki-20100916-pages-articles.xml.bz2 (6.1 GB)

you need to download and convert the databse with WikiTaxi_Importer.exe
  • md5 checksum: 09ae0db25ae95af53296e812bc67554b, please check it with this tool xcsc.exe
  • when converting don't put the slider too far to the right or it will fail.
  • you need a big usb stick or a hard drive to store the database. it will be ~10GB

have fun and good luck everyone!
