Well, ten proposed judges is good number (in such case I think Alyara should be among competitors, she will be great wätu :))
As for other things:
- well, some promotional hype is needed, because seems that no other people than those who responded here took attention for the action. The more competitors - the better action.
- prizes - last year the only prize was publicity on Naviteri, I don't think we can come with something better (I can create plushy ikran for the winner :), but how to hand it over? and I'm quite busy now ...)
- rules : I prefer free rules, so no topic. Let's allow people to select what they want to write about (I hated compositions on given topic in the school...). Maybe more categories can be open - not only prose and poem, but also song and even translation.

What do you think?

Is it OK to take part in two or more categories?

Good ideas. Prizes should be of a nature that they have no real tangible value. So, a plush ikran or a T-shirt would be OK, but no money, gift certificate, etc. (Recognition on Na'viteri is good enough for me, and even that is not necessary).

I would not open up the writing contest to any topic, but would suggest as a compromise selecting several possible topics, on diverse areas of Na'vi/Avatar interest.

Last year, I think Payoang put the contest announcement in the banner, which made it visible to almost everyone. Maybe we can ask him to do that again.

As far as judges go, I would think 3-5 is the best range of  numbers. Perhaps a PM to the list of people identified would be the place to start.

Also good question. Last year everyone could send only one work, I think this should be preserved as it is more fair (the more work you send, the more possibility is that you win)

I'll second that. It will make you think a little harder about what kind of entry to enter, and will also likely result in better quality submissions.

Not sure about song since the lyrics are basically poem/prose.  I'm also voting kehe on translation, especially because of the loanword complications.

At first, try to see who can be the judges (contact the most experienced people with Na'vi) to see who is available, then discuss the rules and suject for this contest. I cannot wait to think and try.  ;D

Ok, I promoted myself to the organizer of this year's contest, I just sent messages to possible judges. I hope I get answers, then other planing takes place. To see progress, I'll write updates into OP in this thread.
As I have no big experience with such organization, maybe some help from the others will be good.

I will help as well, if needed. But I want to be able to submit an entry (as well as not become overcommitted, which happened last year about this time).

I am still interested in judging if needed (thank you for your ind words ma 'Eylan Ayfalulukanä :) )tho I will be just as happy to write something. For prizes, I like the idea of an LN shirt and Na'viteri publicity.

My thanks to all who offered themselves as a judge and apologize for not contacting them. Now we have 5-member judge commission established, not other people are needed. Thanks again - you are welcome as a competitors!
Now we started to solve technical matters. If all go well, I hope contents will start next week. But it is still unofficial :)
I also invited our great teacher Paul among the judges, still waiting the answer.

Has anyone contacted Dr. Frommer about posting the winners on Naviteri yet? If not, I can ask when I send him the November LEP document (we are running a bit behind schedule :P).

yes, I asked him for this. He didn't aswered directly to me, but Toruk Makto contacted him too, answer is:
QuotePaul says he trusts the 5 judges to make good choices, but would rather not be an actual judge. He did say that he would be happy to announce the winners on his blog, naviteri.org like last time.
