The Na'vi Vocabulary Committee

Kaltxì, frapoya!  As many of you are aware, during the language workshop in October of last year, Dr. Frommer proposed that a group of members of the language community work in tandem with him to help the Na'vi language develop and grow.

We are happy to announce that the inaugural members of this committee have been decided, and we are ready to start working.

But before we get into the details of the current committee members, we want you to know how all the members of the community can get involved in this ambitious project.

Our goal is to submit 20-25 new words to Dr. Frommer each month for him to look over and approve, modify, or reject (in which case it's back to the drawing board), and he will then post the accepted words on his blog, at which point they become official (yay!).

Like with the original LEP, everyone can submit words.  It will be the job of the committee to organize and clean up the suggestions as necessary and then liaise with Dr. Frommer, but you can all offer ideas for the expansion of the language.  For the rest of January, we will be predominantly focused on remaining words from the LEP A-list; but by February we should have the anonymous submission system ironed out.

Now, here's what you need to know.

All submissions will be anonymous.  Suggestions made to the committee will be anonymized.  This means there's no playing favorites, either on the part of the committee or Dr. Frommer.  We're all on the level.

Don't get too attached.  In addition to making all submissions anonymous, it will be understood that by submitting an idea to the project you waive all intellectual rights to your idea.  That means if a word you suggested ends up on Dr. Frommer's blog, or even ultimately in an Avatar film, video game, or what have you, you will neither seek nor be entitled to any sort of compensation.  Just be content with the satisfaction of knowing you played a small part in helping Na'vi grow.  Also, Dr. Frommer has absolute final say on all word submissions.  He can alter any submission to his liking, or veto it completely.  If you had your heart set on "fwup" being the word for "going fishing," and Dr. Frommer decides he likes "fwìl" better, well...you'll just have to cope.

The Committee

The inaugural members of the committee are as follows:

Creative Committee
↓ Jr. Novice Creator:	Kemaweyan, who will serve 5 months and be the Creative Director in March, 2011 after Ftiafpi.
↓ Sr. Novice Creator:	Ftiafpi, who will serve 4 months and be the next Creative Director in February, 2011.
↓ Creative Director:	Skxawng, who will serve in this capacity for 1 month + 2 more for 3 months total.
↓ Sr. Creator:	Wm.Annis, who will serve for 2 months. Main role to mentor/assist Creative Director.
↓ Outgoing Sr. Creator:	[ o p e n ] (Will serve for 1 month. Main roll to find next Jr. Novice and seal the deal.)
Sr. Editors' Board
↓ Secretary:	Plumps , who will serve for 3+3+3=9 months total.
↓ Acting Chair:	Kì'eyawn, who will serve for 3+3=6 months total.
↓ Outgoing Sr. Editor:	Prrton, who will serve for 3 months total.

For the first round, all the committee members are people who were part of the meeting in October; but the committee membership is on a rotating schedule, and will be open to everyone.  If you would like to join the creative committee, contact the Senior Creator and tell him/her that you would like to come onboard as the next Junior Novice.  Because the committee membership is rolling, please look here for an up-to-date list of the members and their current roles.

To submit a word, go HERE.  There are several different forms a submission can take.

You can do as little as 1) or as much as 3), it's up to you.  3) is the least amount of work for the committee (beyond checking that your proposal obeys the rules of Na'vi phonotactics and such), but you don't have to do all of that if you don't want to and/or don't feel up to it.

Well...are you a moderator of the board (not being able to see it, I don't know what the format is...)?

It might be that moderators that aren't part of the project can't see it or something... Just guessing, here, obviously.

Here, i've attached a screencap of what you should be able to see.  Can you only see one of those threads, or do you not see the Language Development subforum at all (it should be between Community Projects and International/Multilingual)?
