I have to ask this because it seems no one mentioned this kind of thing, and the amount of them is ...

So this may be a try only, I still have several "normal" words to suggest..

Anyway, thanks :)

It's totally OK to ask :) ... I think that is due to the fact that most people are not that much interested in verifying (more) Na'vi names. If I remember correctly it was Tolkien who was fascinated with and very interested in names of plants, animals, places and people and derived many words from them. (that's why I said, they are important)

But as I hinted at before, the more urgent need for the community right now seems to be the prioritized word list from the original LEP. If I got that wrong, people should chime in ;)

That doesn't mean you can't make suggestions for names. As is stated: everybody can submit words ... but it's very likely that in prioritising for the month's list going out to Frommer, if it is a close call between, lets say, a verb for 'to breathe' and a proper name ... the verb would probably win ;)

Kì'eyawn

Plumps is right.  And also, keep in mind historically choosing the Na'vi names hasn't even been Karyu Pawl's domain, but Cameron's.  So, i expect if you do submit a list of proper names to Frommer, all he'll have the power to do is verify that they're all legal constructs.

What will become of the 'Q' list? Are the word suggestions there now 'stranded'? IS there any point or purpose to continued use of the Q list? (If not, maybe it should be locked.)

This is firstly a test of the Mozilla Camino browser running on a Mac G4 under OS 10.4.11...

And secondly, a question or two:

I've been trying to translate both my ekename, "Ranger Jim," and my name in the community of the Wicca which was given to me in a spirit/dream walk, "Silverflame," and so....

"Ranger," in the olden term of one who scouts (or "ranges") ahead of a body of warriors might perhaps in Na'vi, be "walks alone in front of warriors," but that's pretty much immaterial (unless one wants to break out the different "tribes" (e.g. jakescully's "tribe of jarheads," or my "tribe of Rangers") of SpecOps troops who might be hired by RDA).

But, on the other hand, "Silverflame" is material, IMO. First, there is no term for "flame," per se, but I think that "moving part of fire" would work (once I figure out the grammar. ;)), but what about "silver"? The shiny white metal? Sure, but I can't find an expression for "shiny" in any of the dictionaries, nor can I come up with any Na'vi kenning that I might use. And I'm supposed to be a bloody Bard! So, "shining" is another word that needs to be invented.

And - as a student of pre-JudeoChristian religions - I'd like to talk with others about the terms that the Na'vi might use to describe their spiritual pathwalk. Please PM me.

RangerJim, this is not the place for a question like this. There is a thread where Na`vi names are discussed at http://forum.learnnavi.org/beginners/na%27vi-names/

Why is the amount of submitted words so small?

I guess the difficulties with the anonymous posting that makes it quite hard at the moment to get a proposal out and in public contributes to it... unfortunately :(

Or maybe people have ideas for words that are not on our priority list for this month... But this will not always be the case. The list is given this month because half the time is already over and we wanted to fasten the process for this month...

Ataeghane

OK, and what about words sent to Frommer? Why only 25??

Because he will read over and likely adjust many of the suggestions he gets.  25 is the maximum — set by him — he can expect to reliably approve.

The number may change in the future if things go along smoothly.

Can we write there words not only from the list?

If you look at the current word submission board, you'll notice word proposals that are not on the list ... so, yes, you can ;)

Iráyo for the link. Unfortunately, the last post was in November, '10, and I've already been shat upon for "necroposting," so.... I'll give it a shot anyway and see what happens. Urm, may I quote you as having directed me to that link? Rutxé?

And I will stick to words that might be found in the Na'vi culture in their current, Neolithic, stage of cultural development.

There's a big difference between necroposting just to say "rofl, lol, XD" and "[insert meaningful, on-topic, new information here]". The latter you should still make sure wouldn't be better in a new topic but, and in this case it seems so, an old topic would be better in many cases.

This thread has gotten seriously OT. I'll respond via PM, ok?

Just an update for interested folks...

The SMF mod that provides for anonymous posting is having trouble. I am in communication with the author of the mod to see if we can figure out what's wrong. In case anyone here is an SMF guru, the error we are getting is:

"8: Undefined index: anonymousBoard in /*****/forum/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (main sub template - eval?) on line 624"

Apparently the context variable "anonmymousBoard" is being lost in the new topic posting process where it isn't in the reply process.
The Post.english.php file only has 183 lines, so that's weird.
