I wouldn't really use anything that has peng in it here.
When the mirror speaks, the reflection lies.

Ataeghane

Why wouldn't ye?

BTW, is there any official place we could elaborate on our ideas?

not yet I think...

I would say relpeng is quite fine.

"Reading" doesn't necessarily involve "telling" anything. I now tend to think that a loan word would be better for this.
When the mirror speaks, the reflection lies.

Ataeghane

Well, than we could come up with (pam)relpeng for telling what we read and pamrelnìn for reading without saying anything. Rit would be too easy.

Oer wivìntxu ngal oey keyeyt krr a tse'a sat. Frakrr.

Tängal

Telling in the meaining of making sounds would plltxe. Peng is more general :)

Ataeghane

Well... doesn't pamrelplltxe sound hiyìk?

I can hardly see the diffrence between these two.

I think there is room for more than one word for 'read'.

The first word would mean 'interpret' more than 'read' and would be for things like what the animal tracks at the river's edge tell us. Considering the importance of this activity, it would be a root word, or else tie in closely to hunting and/or food gathering activities.

The second word, more likely a compound or loan word, would be for reading text or similar things.

*continues to appreciate pamrenìn*

Pamrel is a foreign concept, and so are its compounds, and reading/writing are foreign concepts to the Na'vi, so perhaps the word should be based around pamrel.

Oeyä 2¢ nì'aw.

I can agree and match those 2¢.

And for this:

QuoteThe first word would mean 'interpret' more than 'read' and would be for things like what the animal tracks at the river's edge tell us.

We can use ralpeng.

Not exactly on the current discussion, but being in the Northeastern US, I noticed there is no word for ice. The nearest to ice I could create was "cold, hard water" which is wewtxa'pay. Any thoughts??

I'm pretty sure Pandora has frozen regions, much like Earth, so a new root would probably be the best for ice.

Ice has already been suggested in the LEP.

Or just txa'pay, because I can't imagine a hot hard water ;D If that's hard, then that's obviously cold ;)
