Hey! Why not!?

Taronyu got "fern" out of a beer.

Now I got an epic flashback to that night.........

//offtopic

Wait, what? I have no idea what you guys are talking about but it sounds excellent.
weren't you there the last night in the restaurant?
Kehe, nìkeftxo. I was not there, me and Skxawng had to leave for my flight back home.
Ah, yeah I remember that now :C
Well, everything was awesome nìngay, not only that night :)
*has nostalgia*
you're not alone..
Isn't this quotation quite big?

Not really.
Man, I still have fond memories thinking of ìpxa. :D
Yeah, I can still see you and Paul sitting at that table, and the moment he's like "ìpxa!" :P

It's like a 3D piece of abstract art popping out of the screen. Maybe it could be a bonus feature on the 3D Blu-ray!?  ::)

Well, yeah... I looks like 3D image.

BTW, what is the ìpxa about?

Pandoran FERNS are derived from 'Rrtan BEER. Ask Taronyu.

Is it some kind of loanword :D?

For those interested — we have pretty much decided on the members of the first version of the committee; a (not yet public) subforum area is in design; we're working on the charter/by-laws to clarify such things as the jobs of the various committee posts, how to get new committee members, etc.

Isn't the entrance free-for-all?

Suggesting words is.  Committee membership is not.

But, anyone who wants to join the Committee, if they are willing to apply, follow rules, WORK HARD, can certainly get on track to do that. It's just that a committee of 100 people rarely gets anything productive done... so it won't have 100 people on it at one time. We'll have to take turns and share the fun and RESPONSIBILITY.

Does that sound reasonable?

The new system to do those things has not yet been released.  Those in charge of the new system are still finishing up all the finer details.  I am not sure when the actual launch date is, but I'm sure it will be hard to miss.  Just keep an eye out on this thread for more details to come...

I was thinking about the absence of Na'vi words for cardinal directions the other day and it occurred to me that for people living on a tidally locked body there might be another direction system they could use in addition to one based on their world's rotational axis.

Does it not seem likely that the Na'vi would have words for 'the direction which puts Polyphemus closer to the zenith' and 'the direction which puts Polyphemus further from the zenith'? The 'poles' of these two directions would be the centre of the Polyphemus facing hemisphere of Pandora and the centre of the anti-Polyphemus hemisphere respectively.

Interesting idea. However, we don't know for sure that Pandora is tidally locked to Polyphemus, do we?

We see a time lapse sequence in the film in which Polyphemus hangs motionless in the sky (for what is presumably several hours) while the phase changes.

At least I think it changed a tiny bit, can't remember right now. We certainly see some rotation of the cloud formations in this time.

I'm not convinced that Pandora's orbit has a high eccentricity. I think the changes we see in the size of Polyphemus can be explained by different FOVs rather than changes in angular diameter. We've all seen romantic films with couples standing in front of an enormous moon.

Polyphemus sometimes being near the horizon is trickier to explain unless they are travelling a significant distance around the globe.
