Okay gang, it is official:

http://www.avatarmovie.com/rerelease/

Just got the word. August 27th. Other countries not so lucky (later release dates). Germany isn't even on the list. but Australia gets it first (stupid lousy International Date Line)
2022 update: Working on the new astrology book. "How to read tarot" books are on Amazon, if you are into that sort of thing.
Okay, so the old podcast is here: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/radioavatar It was goofy fun that ended too soon, but we had creative people. I hope we can get a new gang together (interested? PM me, let's make some magic!)
(Very old, outdated) Na'vi FUN activity book is here: But what are you doing? Let me know! :)

8 minutes of unshown footage.... isn't the extended version at the end of the year have like 40 minutes of unshown footage?

The re-release dates also don't have the US on it and the Netherlands

Aye, I am excited to see the re-release. But I must profess I am confused, why they are releasing only 8 minutes of footage as opposed to the 40 minutes that have been bantered around.  ???

Otherwise brilliant news.  ;D

I'm only some minutes away from Belgium, and Belgium is listed. But I'm going to see it in theaters again because I have the DVD. I'm not that of a uber-hardcore fan

I believe the main reason is the reason why so much was cut before: IMAX reels.  That, or the time it would take to edit in 40 minutes would be a lot longer than the 8 that is being edited in.

On indefinite leave.  Will be back periodically. Feel free to say Kaltxí: I'll get back when I can. :D

I am soooo excited for this re-release! Not to mention these 8 minutes of unseen footage (by me anyways). Though one has to wonder about the other 32 minutes, perhaps they are going to re-release again with these minutes? Who knows. All I know is that I am pumped. I never saw it in theaters; I only saw it when it came out on DVD, because I didn't know how good it was (I guess that's part of the reasons to go to the theater). But not only am I going to see it in theaters, but in 3D  ;D :D

I believe this is the main reason. Current IMAX platters only allow a run time of up to 165 minutes, while the published length of Avatar in it's first release is 162 minutes. To add anything substantial they probably would have had to add in an intermission.

So, wait. Is this the date it comes back into theaters, with more footage?
Or the date a semi-extended DVD is released with 8 more minutes?

The date it returns to theaters with 8 additional minutes.   The DVD with the extra footage (and hopefully more than 8 minutes) to come later, probably in time for Christmas.  :)

I think it is because Sydney has that monstrous Movie Screen.  So why not play it on one of if not the biggest in the world to Kick things off.

Well tbh, I'm not really that hyped about it, $20 to see the movie again with an extra 8mins footage. And might not even be noticeable, meaning they'd have 30sec extra here and there

If you do not notice every single addition in this movie, then you're not a big enough fan.
