Reading the suit, this may actually go a bit farther than i first expected.

How do you figure? There seems to be a date problem. Unless the plaintiff can prove antecedent intellectual property from date of the Project 880 scriptment, what else does he have?

Nothing.  He must think he has something or he wouldn't be going through the cost of hiring a lawyer for this, though.  I find it very strange to think that James Cameron would even think of pilfering someone else's ideas.

Well, even though large sums of money have historically attracted carpetbaggers, I would have to agree that this fellow must have some confidence in his story to try to take on JC. It's too bad that huge success is often plagued by this sort of thing...

And here's another one. Man, they are popping out of the woodwork.

A quick iMDb lookup shows this little wiggler has one 7 minute short film to his credit called "Machete Massacre". Apparently he is really a prolific source of original ideas* and James Cameron is just a plagiarizing son of a film cutter.

AFK trolling. I think courts should award punitive damages against people who try these frivolous lawsuits. Making these people pay a few hundred grand to JC as an admission/apology would be so much win ;D

I call them Pop Torts (with due respect to yummy breakfast food). They pop up when some shmuck gets cornered in a bar by an eager shyster that will get paid whether the plaintiff wins or loses. Said plaintiff is typically a fictional character to begin with, but with a marginal interest in the matter at hand.
