Due to the power problems we've had at our current colocation facility, I have been working to find something better. I am happy to say that I have come up with a new place for Kelutral to live. The server will be moving to none other than Houston InterNap. The move will be this Saturday, Sept. 7th. Since I will have to physically drive the server from Dallas to Houston, there will be a 4-6 hour period when many LearnNavi services will be unavailable.

The good news is that this is a world-class colocation facility and we will have much better network connectivity. For the technical-minded among us, note that the IP addresses of the server will change, but unless you are running collateral LN services, or anything that has hardwired configs for 208.67.252.88/29 or 2607:1c00:a:8::/64, this change will not affect you. All the normal host names like forum, wiki, www, etc will stay the same.

But wait, there's more! The best part is that this will greatly reduce our monthly colo cost! The people say "Eywa will provide" and it turns out to be true.

Thats sounds so very nice. Hope all connecting and power problems of the past, then are gone. :-*

I think, Markì, that is appropriate... :-*

WOU!

Txantsana fmawn! (except the downtime, but that's totally ok for having it moved to a better place)

And, I'm in Houston too. I feel like I'm closer you guys already :)

The fellow that is setting up the routing got really stretched thin today and wasn't able to get to the config. The move may get pushed back a few days depending on when everything is ready to go. I'll keep everyone advised on the timetable.

Tirea, I want to take you to lunch one day, now that you're here in Houston too.  :)

Understandable.

But lo! The plot thickens!

The network guy DID manage to get us configured this morning. I am about to jump in Toruk and drive up to get the server. I am guessing the outage will be from 5:00p-10:00p CDT today while I am on the road with Kelutral.

Needless to say, this move puts us in a VERY good position to weather the storm in a few years when Avatar returns to the big screen.  I am bouncing off the walls over here!

Well, that obviously took longer than I would have wanted...   ::)

The actual move on Saturday went pretty quickly. The IP addresses and routing were reported to be in place at the new location, so I got the server and other gear unracked and drove back to Houston. Got everything into the new cabinet at InterNap and connected everything up. Unfortunately, the IP info was incorrect, so new IPv4 and IPv6 blocks were assigned. But since it was a weekend, nobody was around to fix the routing in the backbone for the new addresses. That was fixed this morning.

I am going through all of the LN services on that server to make sure everything is running correctly. The email notifications will probably have some trouble until the rDNS is configured later in the day for our new IP blocks.

Good times!  The network was fixed at about 10:30 local time this morning. Then an hour later I managed to hose the netif config on the server which took is back down for another 5 hours. Oeru txoa livu for that last bounce!   :-[

We should be good to go now. Thanks for the patience, ma frapo!

Folk on LN are really patience. :)

Ma Markì,
I saw you modify the LN rules and I just want to mention that in the hardware part maybe is a little mistake: I never saw a standard DDR3 ECC RAM with a clock of 1666MHz. It should be 1333Mhz, 1600MHz or 1866MHz?
Tewti for 1Gb internet connection with the new colocation! :D

You are absolutely right! I typo'd the number in the description when I replaced the 1333Mhz RAM with 1600Mhz.
