Word Football Game
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:51:31 am »
Kaltxì, ma eana eylan!

As we want to learn Na'vi in funny way (I hope), I'm proposing to play simple "word football" game. Not original - it was played at the beginning of this forum in intermediate section and also in Czech part of the forum; however both died of lack of interest. That's why I'm trying to find new players here. It is intended for beginners, but any player is welcome (and Na'vi experts too).
Do not afraid of mistakes - the is no learning without them, others help you to correct them

Rules:
  • I'll start with a word and create sentence using this word
  • Other players try to translate into English, in case of doubts we analyze sentence (I hope experienced people/haryu help us)
  • When translation is made and agreed, another player takes ending char from original word, selects new one and creates new sentence. This process will be repeated until we all are experts :)
  • you can write more sentences, if you can. They can be simple or complex - it's only on you
  • if you feel uncomfortable to deduce new word from the old one, forget about this rule and use your own word. This allows you write special sentences you just invented :)
  • you can also derive new word from the old one using any association

Example of word selecting:
numtseng -> ngul -> lrrtok -> ....

Of course we can modify rules as we need, send you proposes. I will keep current rules in this post.
So - clear enough? Uvan si ko!

Edit: added 5th rule
Edit2: another new rule for creating new word

And as a creator, I'll start with numtseng word. To follow one of basic rules on this forum (Have a fun), I have translated anecdote for you:

Sa'nok: Lu txen, ma 'evengan oeyä. Nga zene kivä nemfa numtseng.
'Itan : Slä oe ke new kivä tsatseng, ma sa'nu. Srake oe zene nìngay?
Sa'nok: Srane, nga zene. Nga lu karyu!

Who tries it?

Sa'nok: Lu txen, ma 'evengan oeyä. Nga zene kivä nemfa numtseng.
Mother: Wake up, child. You must go to school.

'Itan : Slä oel ke new kivä tsatsengit, ma sa'nu. Srake oe zene nìngay?
Child: But I don't want to go there, Mum! Do I have to really?

Sa'nok: Srane, nga zene. Nga lu karyu!
Mother: Yes, you must. You are the teacher!

'Itan : Slä oel ke new kivä tsatsengit, ma sa'nu. Srake oe zene nìngay?

is intransitive, so there should be no patientive case here.

Also, I think, ne numtseng will suffice … but that’s nitpicking for a fun game :D

The word: spxam.

Koaka tutan sì 'ewana tute tsìme'a hìmtxam ayspxawm.
Koaka tutan lawk san Ayoengil foti yìyom sìk.
'Ewana tute lawk san Kehe! Ayoengil foti kìyener! sìk.

(I will probably learn better Na'vi too now, I suspect at least 2 errors in this text. ;))

Puvomun, Puvomun, fyape nga ngamop spxam from numtseng ?  :) :)
Nevermind, rules are here to be broken :) I try to correct grammar mistakes and typos too:

Koaka tutanìl sì 'ewana tutel tsìme'a hìmtxanit ayspxamä. (tse'a is transitive, genitive used as "of" preposition)
An old man and a young woman will see (soon) amount of mushrooms.

Koaka tutanìl lawk san Ayoengil foti yìyom. (sìk not necessary at the end of clause; lawk also transitive, I think plltxe is better here)
Old man says: "We eat them".

'Ewana tutel lawk san Kehe! Ayoengil foti kìyener!. (same as above; what is kener?? don't see it in the dictionary. Most similar is kxener - smoke, but is is noun, so infix can't be put inside...)
Young woman says: "No! We ?? them"

Can you write last sentence better?

'Ewana tute lawk san Kehe! Ayoengil foti kìyener! sìk.

The old guy and the young person just saw a number of mushrooms.
The old guy talked about "We will eat them."
The young person talked about "No! We are about to ??? them!"

Thought you could use a second answer as well ;)

Koaka tutanìl sì 'ewana tutel tsìme'a hìmtxam txana pxaya ayspxawmit.

It's pxay because spxam is countable. And I think pxay+plural would be too informal in this context.

My typo, my bad, ngaytxoa. And I may not understand the actual rule of the game. I did not try to create spxam from numtseng. I will read the small print of the game again, soon.

;D ;D ;D You mean kxener, right? :D
Welll, unfortunately that is not a verb but a noun and therefore can’t combine with infixes ;)

Probably nekx will do here.
That would almost be the same as {yom}... it was meant to be a joke, to eat or to smoke the mushrooms. Clearly a #fail as there is no word for 'to smoke' in Na'vi. (Which in itself is very healthy. ;) )
