avatar soundtrack not made by james horner!
« on: February 02, 2010, 04:22:31 pm »
seriously, i was watching a quite old movie lately(the island), and the song they played at the end was really familiar,
after searching for 5 mins:

it's track 14 from the island soundtrack:my name is lincoln
i heard iit, and i immidiatly knew it from AVATAR,
that means sir james horner didn't quite make it all himself, a some other tracks might also not be made by him..
dissapointment sucks...
i think the song was from the trailers, but i'm not sure, it was atleast used for AVATAR...
it was really weird hearing it in the movie...

Not exactly the same but very very familiar.
Maybe both songs share inspiration from the same native song/motive.
Its common to develop a melody you like into something else, and thats what many composers do. After all they cant constantly create new things, and they dont need too. As human culture gives them abundant material to work whit, if only they know where to look for it.

That was just the trailer music. Many studios use different songs for the trailer -- there are entire companies who specialize in just trailer music. You most likely haven't heard of them, but you have heard their music. X-Ray Dog, Immediate Music, etc. They create most of the songs you know from trailers.

(also, moved to Soundtrack section)

Besides, why would they attribute something to James Horner if he didn't make it?

Also, it doesn't have the melody that runs through the rest of the music. It's similar, yes, but definitely not exact.

What this is-- the EXACT song from (not the soundtrack) but the trailer, as you guys were saying.  I don't recall hearing this song anywhere in the actual soundtrack or in the movie.

Yay!  The Island makes me happy! lol

Exactly. In the same way that E.S. Posthumous did the trailer music for Sherlock Holmes (That track was amazing, and the film wasn't bad either:P)

A lot of the trailer music nowadays is so generic though, i want to see either A) Some variety or B) ACTUAL MUSIC USED IN THE FILM ITSELF :D

That track was indeed meant and made for The Island, but it's been used in countless trailers since then.
I'm not even surprised when I hear it anymore, 'cause it's so overused (none the worse though, I still think it's an amazing song!)

Hmm, just did a google search, and I'll be honest, it kinda ticks me off that, allready the song's been linked more with Avatar than The Island... (I'm a huge fan of The Island too).. Bah, so much for specialized trailer songs x_x
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.       - John Stuart Mill
