For the music-program-savvy ones out there, Sibelius is a sheet music creation program, which is absolutely magnificent. I use it for all of my arranging and composing -- and so did James Horner for Avatar.

That is pretty interesting.  I've heard of Pro Tools before, just never realized how powerful all that stuff was...

Don't thank! You don't thank for this! This is sad... VERY sad only!

And there I thought you were referring to the Finno-Swedish Composer Jean Sibelius :P
Would have been cool if he had been inspired by him - Sibelius has composed a few amazing pieces

This. This a million times over. If you're part of the confused masses out there that have been tricked into thinking that Finale is the superior program, well, to put it bluntly, it's not. Sibelius FTW. While I don't use it exclusively, it is the only program I use when I'm trying to make a piece of music look and sound professionally-done. If you're at all curious, I actually use a dinosaur of a program, Midisoft Studio 4 to write music, then copy it into Sibelius once I want to flesh it out and make it not look like crap.

The only problem with the really good programs such as Sibelius is their high initial cost. I must say, though, if you like writing music at all, Sibelius is WELL worth the investment.

No way. I started out with Midisoft. I feel your pain.

Forgive me but I am a relatively new to music composition/production.  :-[

Does Sibelius also function as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) like Cubase/Logic/Abelton? or is it just a score writer? Wikipedia was somewhat vague in that regard.
