Song lyrics from the Avatar soundtrack

There is always the possibility (and i shudder to think

) that Frommer and Horner had nothing to do with eachother, and the lyrics we hear are merely chanting. However, the lyrics do seem to sound a lot like Na'vi, and given JC's atraction to detail, I am very much hoping we can have a translation very soon!

(rhyming in Na'vi must be hard XD)

Oh ho, they very much had something to do with each other, alongside ethnomusicologist Wanda Bryant, who helped with the musical background of the Na'vi. I've bugged her for information, but she's contractually bound, and wants to publish in late 2010. So we wait

Thank you so much! Wow, I -love- this song and I'll be printing the translation to practice the language. And thank you for the translation! Awesome song. I am hoping beyond hope that they have information about the language on the DVD/Blu-ray.

As for the song they sing around the Tree of Souls, I read on another forum that someone thought it was the same song as the 'solo' part of 'Jake's First Flight', the part at the end. Can anyone confirm this?

Just to let you know, those translations are based purely off of phonetics, and it might be COMPLETELY WRONG

You know what i will do? I'll re-translate my English lyrics back into Na'vi and see if the sounds of the song match the words. But at the moment, just be warned no one knows EXACTLY what the words are. They were just my best guess

I am really glad that you are trying.

I know that it's a bunch of guesswork and am happy just to have something to help me practice sounds. I also really like the translation you have. It seems to fit with a 'journey' and 'learning' idea that fits the song very well.

I'm listening to it now, and still can't figure out the Inglìsì in an understandable, sensible format. I really doubt they are saying "From across" THAT many times

For those that care about this awesome song being translated the "Skype team" (members that get on Skype to chat about the language) is hard at work on it. They cranked out about 4 hours last night and got about 1/3 of the way through the lyrics in "Jake's First Flight"! It really is hard to figure out what they are saying!

I'm not sure when it will be done but rest assured there are keen minds (and ears) at work.

I've been listening to the soundtrack for days and I was just wanting to know what the human translations were for those vocal sections.

One question I have is has anyone translated "I see you" into Na'vi? I'd love to learn to sing the song in Na'vi instead of English.

The problem with this is that the lyrics then would not fit with the tune. However, it would be a very easy song to translate into Na'vi. It just wouldn't be able to be sung with the tune.

I'd love to, actually. There's a singer I love to listen to on youtube, Kate Covington, and she's able to take things like this and do them beautifully. plays all the instruments herself and records everything on her own, even when she's doing a cover of an already-existing song. When I thought about singing it in Na'vi, I thought about doing it that way. Maybe finding a way to do some drums and something else, though I don't have the equipment to record things like that at all. or the know-how to play drums. I could try doing penny whistle, though, or ocarina. It would be kind of a neat project to get a group together to do.

Someone playing drums, someone else playing a flute-like instrument, someone or multiple someones singing the lyrics.

After listening to that fantastic section of the song during the romance scene at the tree of voices... i'm pretty sure it starts singing about trees...

'Utral-ay' not sure what she sings afterwards... maybe 'meuia'

and then she sings

'Utral-ay' again and then i think she sings something beginning with the letter 'N' so maybe, na'rìng or something

And after that she sings something that sounds like it begins with an 'A' or an 'E'... maybe someone else can figure some more out with this little starter
