some of us want to escape personal issues with our families they aren't saying you should give up yours too. Or at least they shouldn't be.

I don't want to sound like a preacher or anything but to me it sounds like you should try to work out problems rather than run away from them. What if your life doesn't work out with the tribe either? You wouldn't have anywhere to go back to.

First, I am going to wait untill the tribe is about 4 years old (or untill I have been athnd finished my studys)
If the tribe fails in the first 12 to 24 months like most people pridict then I will, at that point, be out of the tribe
If the tribe fails when i am there then I have a back up plan.

Yeah that's very plausible. 90% of the projects never get out of the planing phase. I just hope the tribe doesn't get to big before it start as this is probably the biggest risk of failure.

I don't know what your family is like but parents can be surprisingly accepting of what you want to do. My parent's want me to study law at uni but when I raised the topic of er... alternative lifestyles like this they were not opposed to it, my mum even said she could imagine doing something like it herself!. Admitadly I haven't said I'm considering doing it but it's a good start

What i feel my experience is going to be like, it'll probably involve some harsh words from both sides. Have you ever tried to make peace with a religious fanatic? Two words "christian alquida"

Some of you guys are pretty young. How about this for a plan-- join one of the armed forces for a minimum enlistment. They'll train you up, get you fit, and pay you well (if you don't blow your money foolishly like I did  ) and when you get out after a few years, you'll be ready to set up. A cash reserve to buy supplies with and a bit of outdoors training.

I recommend the following: Infantry, Medic, Field Intelligence, and Cartography (maps).

That way you have a plan for the "here and now/immediate future" portion, and you'll be in the prime position to have someone else foot the bill and even pay you to learn the skills that can really help you pull this off.

Well, once you go, you're stuck there for about 6 years anyways. I've thought of this a million times, and I voted against it because I don't need to be shipped off and killed. I'm just going to take a course in Flash and Applications, blah-blah-blah, then start that stuff and take in donations and run a side job. That's my plan.

Actually, a minimum enlistment is about 4 years, not 6, unless you want to stay in the Reserves afterwards. Also, there's no guarantee that you're going to be "shipped off and killed" (been doing this for a few years myself, and I'm not posting from beyond the grave [ ]). And if you're going to take a course, who is going to pay for it? If you're going to start a business, where does the venture capital come from to start that?

I'll be running a job, hopefully with a lot of hours. On my free time, I'll be doing the application stuff.

I want to go atleast 50 hour weeks, that is after college. Before college I'll just be running a job like everyone else, except my brother found an excellent-paying job before he went into the Air Force.

Just to keep clear: I do hope people understand that when I throw stuff like this out there, it is not to "shoot down" but to point out something that may cause trouble down the road. I'd love to see this idea succeed wildly, which is precisely why I try to point out things that (I feel) need to be thought through.

Would I participate if it does succeed? I'd be the type to go to the eco-village, and do an occasional summer-over in the woods Where The Wild Things Are.
