I think he forgot a comma and it should go more like:

eh. Anything plant, edible roots, carrots, potatoes or any dirt food.

i.e. anyhthing that grows underground not like a tree with fruit

Cat tails are a great idea, They have many edible parts, their pollen can be ground into flour, and they make good bedding/floor mats.

As far as food goes, I support a diet with lots of variety, but as far as living in the wild goes its down to simple foods, which I'm sure is obvious. I feel that many people will have a hard time adjusting from a food rich in salts sugars spices corn syrup and soy protein. To foods that are kinda bland, but still healthy. The major thing with food, "ofcourse" is that location determines all, if the tribe is located in a jungle as opposed to the vast expanses of Canada, the food that is readily available is extremely different. Im sure your all aware of this.

Canada brought a thought to mind, Have any of you ever read the book "Hatchet", by Gary Paulsen... Random I know, but that was a good book as a kid, and it was all about survival, and a crap load of luck, but whatever. Random thought done.

I used to be obsessed with living it rough in the woods, and during that time of obsession I learned a vast quantity of survival tactics. To test out these tactics, my friend and I have camped during February on a mountain with 6 feet of snow at the top and temperature averaging about -10 with wind chill factor. I have camped in the spring and summer as well, just to be rounded with different skills. The moral of this story is that I think it would be cool if a group of us met up, in the Pacific NW and did a two week camping trip with no more than starter provisions, and items. It would be a true test of our skills, to work together as well as to meet up. Its been mentioned in another post, but I forget Im tired ahhhhh. If we could survive aka not kill eachother or get to hungry during a two week span in the PNW during summer I think that would be proof enough of all of our survival skills! Besides that I Think I should go to bed... ::)
