Eyktan (Preliminaries; permanent Tribe only)
« on: January 17, 2010, 10:29:59 pm »
Kaltxì, ma oeyä aytsmuke sì aytsmukan!

This is a very important thread, representing a very important part of the creation of the Tribe- The creation of an Eyktan.

We all know that a tribe needs strong leadership, as well as individuals who are willing to follow his path. This is why we are posting this- so that all of the people of the Tribe can step forward and make themselves known, should it be their wish to be Eyktan, and for all of us who are not to see who we would want to lead us until the Tribe is established. After the official Tribe is all taken care of, then we will hold a council and see if the current Eyktan is worthy of staying in his role, or if another vote should be held. Seeing as that is many years in the future, I think that it isn't something to worry about just yet ^_^

So, the rules are:

1- If you would like to be Eyktan, then post your name (rl please) and why you believe that you should be Eyktan.
2- If you would like to ask the candidates a question, POST IT! Don't send a PM; that way, we can see what each candidate thinks about each question.
3- NO BASHING CAMPAIGNS! I don't think this is entirely necessary, but just in case, I am posting it. It is common for political opponents to attack each other to make themselves look better. It will NOT be tolerated here. Should this occur, you will be taken out of the race, and your posts erased. Indefinitely.

Well, that's it. Voting will begin the First of February, two weeks from Tomorrow, which will be January 18, 2009. Best of luck to the candidates, and may the best person win.

Eywa ayoenghu, ma oeyä aytsmuke sì aytsmukan

Just to re iterate for those that may have missed the older tribe discussion thread, there are two nominees so far.

Txontaw, Real life name is Nate.

Myself, Real life name is William.

Any others who would wish to step up to the plate, we will welcome you all.

Candidates! I've got a some questions for you - and for whoever else could answer them for me. These I just pulled off the top of my head, and I'm kind of curious to see how the whole process of getting a Tribe together would work.

How do you see yourself helping prepare for this possible official Tribe? What I mean is, what kinds of information are you going to search/consider as far as the Tribal grounds, monetary costs, etc. Would you be contacting individuals about properties or just brainstorming this whole thing through?

I think that's about it for now, since I can't really think of anything else at the moment. Hope I was coherent in my wording enough.

Irayo,
Chloe

So far brainstorming is the name of the game. Getting everybody's ideas out and in the open so that we may look at what may work and what won't.
Most likely gonna do a few trial runs later on after we have a general picture about the Tribe and what we are looking for. Gotta make sure everything will work out on a small scale before going full size.
For me, I would most likely making calls and getting information together, listen to everyones suggestions about what worked and what didn't so that we can change things around.
So far, there has been a lot of back and forth between the idea pitchers and the devil's advocates, and things are already taking shape as to what we will want to bring with us and what attitude we will need to keep this thing alive.
The most important part for now is to not throw anything out the window. We are still finding price ranges and camp sizes and even getting into so much detail as to whether we want a windmill generator or a river generator or both. Whether we want to be at the Equator or more north/south. We just need to stick together as a group. We need someone to be mediator. Keep disputes to a minimum and hopefully provide insight into the situation from an unbiased vantage point.
At this point, it looks like everyone can agree on one thing for sure. There will be Avatar marathons.

What he said.

Nah, just kidding.

Well, nobody can really do anything official yet as far as actual preparing goes. Right now everything's just ideas on paper. I have done some location hunting, and I plan to do some more. I think that actually contacting individuals about buying property is waaay down the line since we still have to get together to see if even some sort of gathering is going to work in the first place. I wish to see this idea to completion, no matter what it takes.

And to actually get to completion, it's better to take baby steps and make sure that it will work instead of rushing to the finish line without actually testing for plausibility. Many ideas like this are abandoned because of lack of planning, or too much rushing to get to the end product. I mean, we all want to be able to actually do this, but it would be unwise to try and get there as soon as possible. In the original thread I created a projected timeline, and I placed the start of the tribe to around ten years. I wish to be as realistic as possible in my goals. I realize that this is a ton of work that will go into this, and I'm prepared to shoulder the responsibility of coordinating it.

Even though I'm only 14 (almost 15 :D), many people think, and have told me that I act older than my age because of my maturity, both online and in real life. When I have a project, I take to it with a passion, and this is no different.

So fr, it seems that Txontaw and I have roughly the same ideas on the matter. No matter who is chosen, I believe we will be in good hands.
Also, your right. I could never have guessed your correct age from what you had posted and was seriously surprised when you posted that you were 14.

A bit off topic: Someone I was working with thought I was old enough to carry a job, and he offered a job to me. :P

To reiterate:

Please try and post the qualities that you have that you think qualifies you to be Eyktan. Yes, anser questions, but also give us something to start with, a little sneak peek at who you are, your skills, that sort of thing.

I also have questions for the candidates:
How motivated are you? Why do you want this Tribe to succeed, and what do you plan to do to make it happen? It's pretty much a reiteration of Chloe's question.

What are you willing to give up to do this? I don't mean that you should lay down your life or kill anyone, but how much blood, sweat, and tears are you willing to give to the effort?

What sort of experience do you have with leading? Or hunting? In general even?

Just a couple to get you guys warmed up. I'm sure more questions will be forthcoming.

Eywa ayngahu!

Assistant is what I meant, but only at the beginning. After we get some stuff straightened out, then you become Spiritual teachers in your own right ^_^ That is what I meant, I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. It's uplifting to see that others are willing to follow the same path as I do, truly.

However, no more about this here. Please PM me for more information.

I want to get this done and be there right now. this for me would be a good thing. To go out and explore a forest and not just be camping in a trailer like when I went as a kid. Plus we would all be in a tight knit community.

To succeed we need to meet and learn how we react to each other so we have an idea of what we would be like 24/7. Trust me, having a friend and living with them are two different things entirely. Basically my life here is hanging by threads because work is slow doesn't pay enough and rent is too high. I wouldn't be missing much. My mother already lives in Texas away from me. (I'm in California)

I want to work as hard as I possibly can to get this whole thing rolling. I want to be out there with you guys learning a language and living clean. Not having to worry about the normal rigors of daily life but experiencing new things and situations.

I have always been able to take the reigns when needed. My dad tells me that in daycare as a little child, I managed to convince every other child to climb the bookcases to the ceiling because it would be fun. As a leader, I don't get active to point of takeover but usually listen to all options from the group and compare them to see which we should do. I have always been a good listener. My friends and family come to me just to talk with me about their lives and hopefully get some answers for themselves. I am patient and attentive, and, I believe, have a good head on my shoulders.

I have never been hunting, but since he start of the original thread, I have been learning all I can about it and talking to others who do hunt and ask them why don't they come along with us.

I want to be apart of the tribe as much as possible, help in any way I can, and be there to enjoy this with you guys.

You keep taking the words right out of my mouth. :P

I suppose we have similar personalities.

Getting to business:

Quote from: Uriuujìn
How motivated are you? Why do you want this Tribe to succeed, and what do you plan to do to make it happen?

What are you willing to give up to do this?

What sort of experience do you have with leading? Or hunting? In general even?

I was extremely motivated to work out and get in shape when I saw this movie. When I get an idea, I stick to it. I am extremely stubborn when it comes to those things, and I get annoyed when something I wanted doesn't make it to the end product. So the only way something won't get into this camp is if it's totally impossible for it to happen. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work & projects, and even if everyone thinks it's already great, there's always one more thing I can do to make it better....

I've taken this tribe idea to heart. I've always debated with myself of whether I wanted to live with my love for cool tech, or follow my natural roots and take to living with nature. Avatar, and you guys, have really helped me decide which side is more satisfying in the long run. Like I said before, when I get an idea, I tend to stick with it, and this idea is like superglue.

I'll give whatever I can to this. It's frustrating, not being old enough to really contribute yet, but I'll do whatever I can in the mean time, like looking for promising locations for the tribe. But once I turn 18 (in three years :(), I'll be over this like a loving pack of rabid dogs. If necessary, I'll set aside some of my revenue to help support it.

As for leading skills, I've always been very good at coordinating projects, and when I take charge, people listen to me. For example, in fourth grade, we had to do a biome poster. I immediately took charge, and not only coordinated what everybody was doing, I jumped in and started helping out, as well as suggesting new ideas for it and layouts. It would be no different for a tribe. I don't want to be the boss that holes himself up in his office most of the time, and when he doesn't he yells at you for slacking off. Instead, I want to be the leader that is right next to you, helping you finish your work.

As for other skills, I've said in the sign-up thread that I'm good with my hands (woodworking, constructing) and I am an artist. I've never hunted since my family doesn't really get out a lot (I've never gone camping with my family, I've only gone camping four times total), but hopefully I'm going to get a bow for my birthday, which I will practice with a lot. By the time this starts, I hope to be an expert in everything that you need to know to live in the forest.

I agree, bagget, that no matter who wins, I believe we will be in good hands. :)

Can I make a suggestion the eyktan on the site will be more an orrginizer/ ambasador because its hard to get a leader with out actually meating them so we should have a vote when we get to know each other at the camp or we may run into trouble with power control
