Well everyone, it looks like we are blasting off again!

This official topic deals with the crucial yet mundane problem of money. Yes, even though we will be moving away from things like this, money is needed to get us there and to get us set up.

So far, the budget must include:

Property Purchase: Current estimated $3.7 million

Immigration costs (includes legal assistance): <unknown>

Tax costs: <unknown, depends on how long tribe lasts>

Building costs (primarily construction of renewable energy generators, plus command centre): <unknown>

Flights: <unknown, easy to estimate, not priority>

Extra costs: Could include anything from health insurance to natural disaster insurance. Should act as the financial safety net should we encounter any difficulties.

This list will be updated as time passes.

I guess we will all have to win the lottery. :(

Äteya

How many of us is there?
Maybe we could make an advertisement(not in the na'vi language) and put it on Tirea Radio.
That might get us some more members.
And the more members mean more chances to win the lottery. ;D

Do we have more ideal ways of making the money other than the lottery?

Maybe J.C. or P.F. will give us money. :)
I wish. :(

Tonbogiri

The basic way it will work could be this:

Each of us spends the next three to four years raising as much extra money as possible. Like a savings account, essentially, which are not hard to take out from your local bank.
After this time, once we are sure that our combined capital is enough, we form a non-profit organisation (or profit, if that is easier), with it's own bank account. We insert all of our money into said account, and use it to purchase the land and our other difficulties.

It will take a long time, but it will be worth it. And don't worry, I have a plan for bringing in new members...heh heh.

PS. The lottery - would be great! Problem is, you are more likely to be struck by lightning and die in a plane crash than you are to win. BUt, winning even a few million would massively help us along! ANyone who does strike it rich, however, please feel under no obligation to put the funds into Project Tribal.

If we could register as a non-profit group that would help with taxes, right? ???

'Itan Atxur

If I win anything, pretty much all of it is going to this. Also, if we can show they we are serious about this, that we have a real plan and are prepared physically and mentally, there's a chance we could get quite a bit of money from some of my family members.

I'm sorry about posting this but we need to be realistic.
Let's say we need to get $4,000,000 and we have 20 members.
$4,000,000/20=$200,000

Broken up over 4 years.
$200,000/4=$50,000
That means every year we each have to get $50,000.

It won't work. We need more people or some really huge way to get money. Or everyone needs to devote everything to the tribe. Such as selling there cars and houses.
And I for one can't do that.
I'm 15(so no job, car, or house) and my parents want me to go to collage and I could only do this for the summer.
Sorry to be negative.

Perhaps starting a donation fund here on the site? I mean if we are going through all the trouble to make this place into a home why not allow our Na'vi smukan sì smuke help pitch in some money every now and then. I am sure some of them would like to be a part of this project if they knew it could be a place to vacation to at some point.

Also selling a t-shirt with the logo we have come up with wouldnt be a bad idea.

Those are my thoughts... maybe they will work???  :-\

People might not want to donate if there's a chance that we might fail.
Maybe if we promise that if we get money and it doesn't work out we would donate it to a charity.
Any ideas on a good charity?

Txura Rolyu

I like to think that we wont fail, but having that as a back up plan sounds very good to me.

A suggestion might be to put the money towards the Belo Monte Dam conflict. They asked for donations to pay for legal people to fight the construction of the dam and whatnot. I think that would a be a good alternative if we couldnt raise enough.

Äteya

I not saying that I think it can fail, I'm saying others might.
And will the B.M.D. thing still be going on in a couple of years?

Tonbogiri

I am afraid that the entire amazonian conflict situation may go on for at least a decade. As resources become more scarce, it is inevitable that eventually corporations will be able to get permission to freely annihilate tribal lands - there are luckly no shortage of charities for this particular cause!

Besides, let's not talk about failing. It would be a fine and noble thing for us to do, and any ridiculous excess cash we can afford to waste (listen to how optimistic I am ;D) could certainly still be donated.

Äteya, sad to say that you are right in this respect. The numbers look very daunting. I hope this highlights for everyone just how long term this project is. Certainly because 4 million won't be enough! That was just for the land cost and a little extra. Still, it is more than possible - and if four years isn;t enough, then let's make it five. Or even six! So start saving up now, ma tsmuk, because we will be doing this for a while. Ouch, not that many people earn 50,000 a year even without saving...could take longer, it seems.

Let's look at this from another angle. Take a step back and look at what we are trying to accomplish here! If we were able to raise half the cost, then donate it all, then we would still be in an excellent position - who else can say they worked on a long term, multi-national multi-million-dollar project!! Considering that few of us are in actual finance or corporate world, what we are doing is monumental, groundbreaking, even!

So yeah, I'm optimistic. As we get more established, i.e. once we have our NEW WEBSITE  ;), then perhaps we can move into asking the learn-na'vi community for donations. Of course, website affiliation schemes can be expensive in themselves - we shall have ti look at this from a proper economical point of view.
Ooh, so exciting! Feels like we are really on our way here...

I also don't think selling shirts and merchandise will get us much at all. Heck, I think we'd be lucky to get $10,000. Not nearly enough. I, for one, can (and am willing to) sell my place for $80-100,000 provided I feel it's safe to do so.

You are very kind to dedicate so much to this project ma 'Itan Atxur. I hope that you wont have to do that until we are getting closer to actually purchasing the location. It would be a bad idea to be homeless for a few years and the project may not be accomplished even then.

Yeah, hrh, there's no way I'd do it unless I was 100% sure the tribe was ready.

I don't think we will fail.
Saying that if we fail we'll donate the money that others might give to a good cause will make non-tribe people feel safer about donating.
