How would this work?

As some of us plan, we plan to leave every once in a while to visit family. But if we want to do that, doesn't that mean we have to sustain a good-paying job? [Well, we could be fruit cultivators] Because I know I'm not going half way around the world on pocket change I find. So exactly how would we do this?

Parents or friends might pay. I'm sure there are other ways too.

My mom wouldn't support of this, so that's why she doesn't know. [yet] But yeah, my friends are rip-offs at times.

I'm also curious as to that... many, many people, I'm sure, have contemplated things like this before, and it wasn't based off a movie, it was born of a truly desired way of life (raises hand). There are actually eco-villages out there, but to pull something like that off is no small feat, and I'm not sure that Avatar, though already quite the revolutionary film, is grounds for such a high-flying idea.

Not that it wouldn't be fun to make some kind of hiking/camping club.  :)

This is going to be a LOT more than a club, but we don't intend to be the Na'vi either. A few sacrifices (as few as possible) will be made to the Na'vi lifestyle so that this thing is actually doable and we can visit friends and family (and they can visit us).

My brother's in the USAF right now. I wonder if he could be like a private jet pilot soon.

PerianArdocyl

Well... you're going to need survival experts. Do you have any?

guest2859

We have a lot of threads in this board. I bet there's something for that outside of this thread.

I was just wondering if you guys were actually considering doing this without an advanced knowledge of surviving out in the wilderness. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that that is incredibly dangerous.

And no, I'm not being a nay-sayer... leaving that dream behind was extremely difficult. But you have to be practical about it. How much of a Na'vi are you? Could you survive if you got lost in the woods... today?

Of course not. Why do you think we're planning this on a long-term basis? The ultimate earliest that this will kick off is four years from now, probably more.

We're all going to research as much as we can into everything that would be necessary to keep it going and to be able to stay alive.

Well... as long as you're all taking the necessary precautions. I'm glad you're not rushing it, either... that's about the same time I set for myself, but a year shorter. It takes a long time to really learn everything you need to know to survive out there.

And not to advertise or anything, but SurvivalTopics.com is one of the best sites out there for that; it has a forum, too, so you can ask questions and discuss the basics of staying alive.

Haha, I love the way you put that. "discuss the basics of staying alive." :P

As if it's not something we do every day. :P

Yeah, sure, we could just be dropped into the forest. But we need to know everything of that place before we step foot there.

Precisely, Txontaw. Do you know that when you sit on a cold surface, that cold surface sucks the heat away from you? Or that when you sweat, and it gets colder as a result of day fading into night, that sweat could make you hypothermic?

You do not 'stay alive'. You are 'taken care of'. Have some respect for Mother Earth, she's not going to baby you.

guest2859

Actually mother earth could care less. It just happens to have all the things we need to survive. [Though I need to practice the positive image to get used to that.

PerianArdocyl

Well, that's actually kind of what I was getting at... though it's a much harsher interpretation...

'Itan Atxur

We know what we're getting into and we know that not only will it be extremely challenging to survive, but it will also be challenging to educate ourselves to the point where we're ready.

I do appreciate the points your bringing up but they are points we have already discussed in other topics.

Oh... well, then I appreciate you reiterating them for me.  :) And I am glad this is not the 'head-floating-in-the-clouds' tribe... it's easy to get carried away with movies, but that doesn't seem to be you guys. (well, most of you... I've yet to meet the rest)

In any case, I'd be happy to share my training experience and notify the group of classes, articles, etc. that I come across.  :)

Okay. Just check out the other threads on this board if you have interest.
