Ok so this is one of those gross threads but it needs to be said
-how do we keep our selves clean and keep the camp clean
-how do we deal with waste of different types
-what do we do when somebodys sick
-and we can talk about medical emergances here too

first thing, obviously some kind of transport like a car or something would be vital for emergency situations where professional medical help is required. For waste, if there is a small agricultural section of the encampment for farming waste, if organic, can be composted and used that way. I think that even though we would want to keep modern technology to a minimum, it would be a very good idea to keep a stock of medicines and such in case anyone became very sick. Realistically keeping ourselves clean would be the last on the list as we would be dirty most of the time even with regular bathing, but as long as we don't injure ourselves and become infected that shouldn't be too much of a problem. As for keeping the camp clean, just trying to keep it clean and tidy, and have a major wash over every so often would work. I'm getting this from past experience but I'm no expert by all means so I'm certainly open to better and more in-depth solutions.

No. We are not bringing a car.

If it's necessary, we're doing it. At this point, unless someone has a heli to airlift people out, a car is the best way to get an injured person to a hospital. Because there's no way that an ambulance will get to us in the middle of the woods. Besides, how would we call?

We wouldn't call. We'd go. It's a legal emergency. Though we would need Insurance or something to back that up.

Yeah, that's my point.

Hm... I might as well keep my game designing job. Make a game, sell the rights to a company for about $2,500, then there. Got money.

Hehe, I think I'm going to go into flash gaming. If you're good enough, you can make a living off of it.

Yeah, I saw those. It was a hypothetical situation. Sorry for not being clearer.

Alright, I scanned this topic.  I thought we had addressed this in the first thread... :/

First off: I'm in training to be an EMTP [that's a paramedic] and by the time this tribe rolls around, I'll either be a very experienced medic, and/or I will be also training to be a nurse or something like that.  So, for minor things, you have me.  Broken things, though, I can't do much about, besides driving you to the hospital and splinting it.  Sorry.  We need to go to the hospital for a lot of things.  I'm not a doctor [and don't plan on becoming one] and I don't/won't have the medical equipment or knowledge necessary to do such things.  If someone gets shot with an arrow [don't laugh, it can happen], they will need to go to the hospital as well.
But for things like scratches, infections, things like that, I'm here.  I can deal with minor stuff, and can patch anyone up well enough to make it to the hospital.
Yes, we will have a car, at least one.  I don't remember who pointed it out, but someone told me this: Of course we will have cars, because how else would people get to the tribe??  We can drive them to the hospital.

If we don't have a car, or many, how will we get to the tribe site?  Even if we park it out on the road or in a little self-made parking lot, we will have cars.  Not in the camp, of course.  That would be silly, and dangerous.
And yes, anyone on any of the ambulances that would respond to our call [we would have at least one phone line] couldn't do anymore than I could, trust me.  I'll probably invest in a big van/suv before we get out there permanently.  That way we could lay people on backboards[like if they fell out of a tree or something].
Also, we could always rendevous with an ambulance, if necessary.  And, in the best scenario, I will be working for the nearest Rescue center/fire department, so that won't be a problem.

Now, any questions? :D

You've all basically said it right there.  In case of emergency we need speedy and reliable transport.  Anyone who argues that point is just being stubborn.  ;D

Irayo :]

Also to note: In the original thread we did say we needed a permanent building, climate controlled, weather proof and all that, so that anyone [or anything] needing such modern advances would have easy access.  Would be good for people recovering to avoid infection, storing of any and all medical things, computers, phones, etc.  Also, for certain foods I would think, too.  So if it was something minor, we would always have that to rely on. :]

That look all very good but in reality is not. If there's something that extended time space flight shown us is that human "compost" is the worst fertilizer in the world. It just doesn't work. Never wondered why you don't see human fertilizer in sale in your nearest garden shop? Guess what, it doesn't have anything to do about being gross...

About the communication issue, I think we could keep a satellite phone with us. This is probably the best solution cost-wize and hardware-wize.

For emergency transport, I think a helicopter would be the best thing we could dream of. I know that many people, including myself, want to learn or knows how to fly a helicopter or at least a little plane which is already a good start.

Yes, human waste is a horrible fertilizer but only because of our horrible diets. if we ate what we're supposed to i imagine our poo's would be a lot more viable for compost.
