EDIT: READ THIS BEFORE ANYTHING BELOW!! (edited by 'Itan Atxur)

I know this topic is very old and very dead but I still want to clear some things up. Many of the views and decisions in this topic no longer represent the goal of the Real Life Tribe (note the lack of the words "Na'vi" or "Avatar"). We DO in fact recognize the difference between real life and the movie and are NOT trying to be the Na'vi! We all have been INSPIRED by the movie and the Na'vi and intend to form a real tribe bound by real life rules and ideals. Avatar ONLY serves as INSPERATION! The movie is NOT a guide line or the end goal.

Okay, read on and be entertained by old posts and decisions that have since been overriden.

Alright, so a few of the members of this forum have begun to seriously consider creating a tribe somewhere that teaches Na'vi language and beliefs (modified to work with Gaia).

It's probably not going to actually start until the third movie comes out (~4 years), but yes, we are being serious.

People possibly interested:

Medics: Unil Txep
Hunters: Twonyu Ikrana, Tawioang, bagget00
Scouts: Twonyu Ikrana, Tawioang, Zalorticus
Cooks: Swizaw, bagget00
Weavers:
Seamsters:
Gatherers: Tawioang, bagget00
Firetenders: Swizaw, bagget00
Handypeople: Txotaw, bagget00
Fishers: Swizaw, bagget00
Care of Ay'eveng: Txontaw
Musicians: Swizaw

Concept for a permanent camp:

EDIT: The plans have changed a bit. We are no longer really looking at creating a tribe and moving away from civilization. Now we ate planning on holding an annual Na'vi get-together, comparable to a camping trip.

I really do hope it is something that will happen, but of course a decision like this takes a lot of thinking over time. At the moment I'm leaning to yes, but I guess we will see how the next 4 years plays out.

A 4 year development period could also allow certain members to become old enough to act upon such ideas. But anyways. Do we want to dedicate any sort of chat room to planning?

That would be what this is for. XD

Yeah, the four year period is for any minors who need to turn 18. Like me.

I don't think we need any chatroom yet. I mean, we do have 4 years.

Also, the 4 year period also allows the Na'vi language to solidify from use in the movies.

True, that.

Okay, so first we need to all get tall and amazingly strong. Then we need to tell or pigmants in our skin to turn blue ad then we need to grow rediculously long hair. May take more than 4 years for evolution on my part sorry.
(seriousl tho), this sounds like fun and I wouldn't mind being part of it. A good solid location and language and where good. If all else fails, at least I will have lost some weight.

One of two ways I see to be blue:

1. Get full body tattoo

2. Higher researchers to create a permanent skin dye

I would love to test it, only if it works tho. ;)

Well, we're not trying to be blue, we're just interested in creating the tribal experience.

I think blue would add the the Na'vi tribal experience.

I am a big proponent of the Gaia theory. I think this is lovely, but I do worry that many people do not understand the extent of "roughing it."

Ah! Please think about what skills you have as a person that are of use to a tribe. Remember that the ability to order pizza isn't helpful. Think about learning/training to pull back a bow, and about textile use (sewing, weaving, etc). Also think about water purification and source :)

I live in Alaska, so...my parents have taught me a lot about hunting (archery and animal gutting, lol), and I can weave.
On the recreational side, I'm also an interpretative dancer and can play the flute, rofl.

What about the rest of you?

Also, do you intend to use no electricity, or simply get it in a green way?

Teio

Fun, original body painting would be nice, though, even if it doesn't make you blue. :p

swizaw

I was planning on maybe configuring some sort of windmill-like energy source. We wouldn't need much anyway.

We're not trying to create a Na'vi tribe, we're trying to create a tribe with Na'vi language and ideals. Though body paint could be a pretty big part of the culture, just like the when Jake becomes one of The People.

I can hunt with a bow and can fish. Are we gonna be making everything or do we bring some basic stuff? Maybe something to test what would kill us if we ate it.

Where would this be happening? Buying land in the rain forest can get expensive...although, since much of it is undeveloped, you get quite a lot of it for what you pay.

Txontaw

I think we'll need to bring some basic stuff to get us going, but by the time a new generation rolls around, we should cut off most (if not all) connections to the rest of the world.

Well, we may not have to buy... The tribes living in Africa and SE Asia didn't pay for the land they are living on.

Also, ow long are we planning to be out there? Forever? Be recluse tribe of people? or do we do it for a few months/years?
