On several of the other topics on this board, people have gotten "off topic" while talking about what technology will be allowed in the Real Life Tribe, or Eco-Village. I'm hoping to get some feedback on this subject, and for this to be a place of discussion about this topic!

I think we have already talked about that ... Many ppl don't want technology in the tribe, but OK for the eco village.

I say no tech in the tribe but have eco-village close enough to access tech there. I say we have one or two rugged (one for backup) land vehicles in teh village, some people talking about helicopter which if they have one is useful. Other than that it would be nice to have a couple of cheap computer's for internet, a tv for films (Avatar yay ;D). Some kind of hot water system would be good also. Other than that whatever tech people want to bring I don't have problem with, just depends on how much funding there is for electricity generaton. Still I say only in eco-village, not in tribe.

I know, kinda ruins the idea of escaping away from modern society if you take modern society with you :(. Not being unpractical, I'm saying keep it nearby, just out of the way of tribe. I realise we need some tech to survive out there but no reason for it to be in my way. I actually quite like tech, especially my ipod, I love music and will be one of the things I miss. Still if I find a kinetic charger for it I'm taking it and leaving in the village for relaxing at night :D

I agree with everything stated above  :) and the idea of having technology in the eco village only makes sense. We need to make sure we always have a way to be safe, but we really don't want it interfering with out tribal life

Maybe a stupid question but what does everybody mean with this eco-village? ???

and I say as less technology as possible. not even i-pods.
we'll just have to make music our selves  ;D

My thoughts exactly, karma for being that awesome!! ;D *woot*

The proposed eco-village will be exactly what it sounds like, the details still have to be thrashed out but I see it as being for people who want to follow the Na'vi lifestyle without regressing to tribal times. Essentially a completely environmentally friendly village where medicine and tech will be stored. I also think it will make a good funding base for the maintenance of the tribe and taxes for whatever land we get. Will be working in harmony with the tribe to support it. I will be writing a detailed list on it soon but this is the general idea

What brought your mind to iPods? Those are definitely not coming.

My mind came to ipods because I love music and my entire music colletion is on my ipod. If you can find a kinetic (wind up by hand) charger, I see no reason why I couldn't leave it in eco-village. It's not harming the environment if I charge it by hand.

Yeah, in the eco-village, of course those are fine.

Eco-Village
2 Land vehicles, hopefully 1 SUV and 1 van [ambulance-style use]
Laptop with satellite internet, for communication
1 Wide-screen 3D TV with a Blu-Ray player, copy of Avatar 3D and about 80 3D glasses
Solar Panel  ;D
And, possible under-ground chamber for person items that'll be unaccesible

Tribe
Nada.

We need suitable technology for visitors and such.

Hahaha well put. I'm hoping to keep communication open between the tribe and village? So that it's not forbidden for the village livers to visit the tribe, but it couldn't be like everyday. Just that we all feel welcome in each others homes, to some extent you know?

also very true. If people want to come join the tribe/village after our original pilgrimage, we don't want to seem destitute!

I agree, I would definitely want to be able to access the eco-village, for emailing family at home and such. And seeing the people in the village of course.

Set the tribe and village 1 mile apart. That'd make traveling interesting.

Fnua Atxkxe

That's exactly what I've put in my village ethnography :D Here's a link to where I posted my tribe ethnography:http://forum.learnnavi.org/real-life-navi-tribe/ethnography-of-the-real-life-navi/
