This is a look inside the sketchbook of Arik & Aniuket as they keep logs of the things that happen around them. These are generally rough sketches, done hastily, or after the fact based on descriptions, and are not always going to be the finest of artwork. Hopefully this will give an idea of things as they happen through the eyes of the characters...

More peeks into the sketchbook diary may come later...

That is so very cool.  I love the sketches, they're great.  If you ever feel inspired to draw Tireamokri, please do.  I can't really draw anything more than stick people or (actually pretty good) sketches of microscope slides or close-ups of anatomical structures.

Now I can't wait to see some sketches of upcoming events. They will be Badass fo sho.

BTW: Love what you did with Brokensword, it is very well drawn. And the Jumppack looks pretty much how I imagined it. well done :)

Great thread dude, the history is building in that RP and now is becoming more awesome by the day.

Mako

You should keep up the drawing brother.

I have some ideas floating around for more sketches, but I've just been too busy in RL. Now that my schedule has calmed, I can do more.  ;D

I'll do some sketches of the other characters, just let me know via PM if there are any particulars about appearance to bear in mind. Otherwise, I'll just go off the impressions I have formed in my own mind.  ;D

Like... scars? Cornrow hair? etc?

Omg please please sketch Ariel!! That'd be six or seven different kinds of awesome.

We could put all the character sketches in the profile information to put a face with the name! ^^

It would be so cool to have sketches of all the characters.  :)  I'd love to see how you picture Tireamokri, Coyote.  :)

Here's the latest-- the scene where Arik prepares to leave; Aniuket cannot go along because she is wounded. He brushes the hair from her eyes before they part...

That's all for now, but I have plans for more.

Mind if I ask how long you've been drawing and how you really learned? I've been teaching myself for awhile now but I can't get over that initial sucking hump.

I'm fantastic with anatomy... its just faces that I hate. Any tips? ;D

It's hard for me to describe, because I've always had a natural talent, and a natural comprehension of things like perspective. I do mess up on things like proportions, though. It's hard to describe how I learned since I don't really comprehend it myself. I took classes and use books and references, but that's mostly to smooth any rough edges.

The best way I learned anatomy was just practice drawing. [Warning: Male alert] Mostly I drew pictures of hotties from Playboy, since they tend to be a very artful poses (as opposed to the purely pornographic poses of other magazines). Plus I dig hotties, and an excuse to examine the pictures up close for long periods was motivating, and motivation is important.

But mostly, it means finding something you like to look at and try drawing it over and over again until you're satisfied you're doing in justice. And don't be afraid to trace a lot at first, to get the proportions right and see that "this line ends here; that line ends there". A good way to "cheat", is to focus on just one or two different types of poses with the face (never profile or face-on, go with three-quarter views) and practice them until you are instinctive with them. Get a good mental library of images you can do again and again, and only after you're comfy with them, move on to more complex stuff. I won't tell.  ;)

For the relatively simple line-art stuff I like to do (illustration/comic book style) there are some great books:
Impact books makes the "Comic Artist's Photo Reference" series, by Scalera. I have the three book set; "People and Poses", "Men and Boys", "Women and Girls". Photo references with CD ROMS including dozens and dozens of poses.

From Watson-Guptil books, is Simon's "Facial Expressions". Very good, very useful.

A lot of the "How to Draw Anime" series is helpful, but you have to go through it with a critical eye, because a lot of it is also schlock. I only have a handful of the Manga & Anime books because a lot of it doesn't apply to me (lke focusing on Bishonen or Chibi 'super-cute/childlike' stuff, or exaggerated fantasy, which I have no interest in).

If you get just two books, I recommend the following:
"Incredible Comics" by Tom Nguyen (Impact books)
"Human Anatomy Made Amazingly Easy" by Christopher Hart (Watson-Guptill).

I use them the most.

A lot of the references I mention are oriented towards Super-Hero comic drawing, which is the dominant market in the USA, and the assumed goal of most comic artists. But I just ignore the "flying" and "cape" and "power zapping" poses and go with the standard street & action poses.

For fighting or action, copy from martial arts or military stuff, many of which can be found in Google Images searches if you don't want to buy a bunch of the books or magazines devoted to such.

Look, everyone... it's...

ARIEL'S NEW CLOTHES!
Here, Ariel has a moment of self-consciousness as she steps out in her new Na'vi skivvies.

And down here, it's...

Tireamokri and Nef'Tys
Tireamokri goes to confront something suspicious with due caution; her impish shadow Nef'Tys, however, is more eager to get to the "action" part...

Enjoy!
