The Ikran Tribe of the Eastern Sea - Logbook
« on: June 18, 2010, 08:55:38 pm »
This is the official thread for the ITES Logbook project. Any informations about the book will be published in here starting with... a link to see the actual progress. You can request edit permissions to any of the moderator listed in the book. The ITES Logbook project is a compilation of the entire role play thread in a book format.

The actual book is currently located here: https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1TIqKcXJxSnAJPm-mYJilENStUr2F3K9ugaZ8gil2_A0&hl=en

PS: Yeah, I know this is not much information for a start but meh... it will get bigger with time ;)
PS2: Speaking of bigger. As of Oct. 21 2010, we now have over 96 000 words! Unfortunately, that is words to deal with, correct, and fix to be a lot more "book-like". Yup, a lot of work ahead.

Update!

Work on the book is slowly progressing since I've been away with my muntxate for a month :D Now that I'm back home, I can finally continue to edit everything and count the words!

As the writing progress though, I've been hit by some legal issues. First, if I want to publish the book, I need to pay for publishing fees. Since I don't want this project to become an expense, I was planning on selling it for a small price. This decision is causing a lot of repercussions since I do not own the Avatar universe and I am not the writer, WE are.

Legal technicalities

Here's the solution I'm offering. I am currently contacting Fox to make sure any legal issues with the Avatar franchise is dealt with before any publication is done. Once a deal is agreed, I wil pick a reasonable price for the book and publish it online as an ebook for everyone to enjoy.

After every expenses is covered from the price of the book, half of the profit will be donated to the forums as a thanks for giving us all the informations we used throughout the book and for hosting the original work (aka the RP). The other half is going to be splited equally between every major member of the cast. If someone desire to leave his share in the pot, that person will have complete control over what will happen with his share. For instance, it can be splited between the other authors or donated to the forums. If an author decide to change his opinion, every future part of his share will be made available to him again.

If the sales are good enough, every author will receive a printed copy of the book free of charges. If we were wrong and our story end up being the worst one ever written, they will have to do with a digital copy in the format they want (ePub or PDF is strongly recommended).

The author list will be published in this thread once the story end and the book is close enough to completion. At that time, I will require EVERY SINGLE PERSON from the list to print a copyright contract that will be published here as well. Everyone will need to sign it and mail it to a specified address (mine, most likely) using any express post services you want as long as the date and time is clearly visible on the envelope. I will NOT open the express envelopes so to make sure everything is right, I need you to provide me a proof that the contract is signed, without any modifications, and sealed in the envelope. Upon the receptions of all the documents, I will seal all the contracts as well as two copy of the book, locked in a express mail box with a time stamp, in a safe and make sure nobody ever open any of the envelopes.

This will be our copyright security. If everything ever get messed up in a legal way, those will be our copyright proof. They will certify that every one of the authors agreed on way everything would happen and that the book was created by them all together.

Pioufff... that's not a simple process...

I know that there is a lot of legal technicalities in there but, it's all for our own security. Plus, it's best to be safe :) Anyway, nothing of this will happen before christmas so you still have some time to think about everything. If you have any questions, please, post them here and I will gladly answer as quickly as I can.

Damn, I forgot about this, I've been busy lately, and when I was here, I didn't thought of it. I read the first chapter Depature and already find a spelling error :P

In the first paragraph, when you see the word Ikran Tribe of the Eastern Sea, it says Ikran Tribe of the Easter Sea.

I see it in here, because I couldn't find the chatbox were I should say where I found this spelling error.

Edit: I have lots of free time atm, so I'm going to look through it now and finding some more spelling errors.

It's ok, we currently have 3 persons doing some proof reading but they are waiting for more stuff to be done. If you want to be part of the proof reading process, make sure you have a Google account and send a PM requesting edit permissions for that email.

With the contract signing, would you accept for me to print it off, sign it, scan it back onto the computer then email it to you?

I need to keep the original. I'm not even sure I'll be able to send it by email because I need to sign it too. That is part of the details I'll need to deal with when we'll get there. If you are bothered about paying for the express envelope, just send me the bill and I'll see what I can do.

I'm fine with paying the money for postage, it's just the waiting time for mail being shipped to numerous countries

Sorry for being a bit off, this whole week became laat & zaat , which means late & drunk, although I never was drunk, not even after those 17 beers.

About the paying, my parents wont let me, which I understand, they always say. "You never who you meet online." Sorry guys, but I still will do my best with correcting grammar errors.

What do you mean they won't let you? If I send you money through a paypal account or a check they can't say anything about it... It's revenue from a book after all :-\

I don't think you need and that would be kinda stupid... You can have a bank account at any age if you want to, just as you can deposit checks.

Hehehe... don't worry. Nothing will happen before the book is actually finished.
