you can only use this infix on transitive verbs.

My favorite transitivity again :) I agree here, but I wouldn't use word only, consider win säpi.

for example, lew si (to cover). you can cover something (a patient), but being a "si" verb it has to have transitive syntax.

I don't really want to go way offtopic here on that again, but...

This mostly happens with the verbs that are formed by using si and an adjective. However the problem is not only with reflective infix in such verbs, but with causative in other si-verbs as well. Taking srung si as intransitive, how can we say "I made him help you"? Is srung seykoli oel poru ngat okay? I don't really think so...
