Way alu Ikran (ABBA: Eagle)
« on: September 06, 2012, 03:42:59 pm »
In this thread there was a question about texts of Avatar soundtrack and there was proposal to translate "Eagle" song from ABBA. Well, I tried to do it, I didn't translate anything to Na'vi for ages. So here's result. It is just translation, not singable, but maybe you like it. Proposals, corrections and changes for singability are welcome, of course (the is more ways how to translate). Not trying to post it in Pamtseo nìNa'vi nì'aw, as that place seems to be dead...

1.
They came flyin' from far away, now I'm under their spell
Fo zola'u fa sätswayon tsengta a lìm, set fol leykek fot oeru
I love hearing the stories that they tell
Ayvur a fol peng sunu oeru
They've seen places beyond my land and they've found new horizons
Fol tsarme'a sengit nuä atxkxe oeyä ulte rolun mipa tewti aytewit
They speak strangely but I understand
Fo plltxe nìhek, slä oe tslam
And I dream I'm an eagle
Ulte leru oeru unil alu oe lu ikran
And I dream I can spread my wings
Ulte leru oeru unil alu tsun piak si syalur oeyä

Flyin' high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
tswayon nìkxayl, lu yayo a mì saw
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
oe lu ikran a tswayon hufwefa
High, high, what a feeling to fly
nìkxayl fìtxan, lu tì'efu a sunu
Over mountains and forests and seas
io ayram sì ayna'rìng sì tampay
And to go anywhere that I please
ulte tsun kivä fratseng a oe new

As all good friends we talk all night, and we fly wing to wing
Pxel fra'eylan asìltsan pängkxo txono ulte tswayon tengkrr 'ampi fa syal
I have questions and they know everything
oe pawm ulte fo tsun 'iveyng fra'ut
There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher
ke lu kea txew oeyä sì'efur, awnga tsyìl nìkxayl nì'ul'ul
Am I dreamin' or is it all real
leru oeru unil fu lu tìngay tsaw?
Is it true I'm an eagle
Srake nìngay oe lu ikran?
Is it true I can spread my wings
srake nìngay tsun piak si syalur?

To avoid confusion between tewti and tewti, I might used tewit, which is just as legal, if not as preferred.  Since the song is not meant (yet?) to be singable, but only accurate, rhyme and syllable count shouldn't matter.

And, of course, seysonìltsan, ma Blue Elf!  Good job! :D  I'd never heard that song, but I kind of like it, even though I couldn't always tell what the lyrics were without reading them :-X

Txantsan Blue Elf!  :D :D

You know, reading the lyrics just brings up so many images from Avatar of Jake and Neytiri doing their Ikran thing. :D

Well, after diphthong both -it/-ti is possible according Horen leNa'vi, so aytewit is probably best (I was lazy to check it last night). Thanks for comment. I like most songs from Abba, I remember time they were so popular (ohh, those old days on elementary school, many years passed by since that time....)

Who doesn't!  They are timeless.  I remember listening to them before I went to school in the morning too - hehehe ;D
