Intre cer si pamant - Mìkam taw sì 'rrta
« on: March 13, 2014, 07:21:48 pm »
Tse ma smuk, I was surfing on YouTube and found a beatyful song. It's in Romanian.
The translating of that song is quite hard as I saw the different in the English translation...and it's a truckload of idioms. :o

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u a ley nìtxan
To tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar
Kawkrr oel ke tswalma' ngat hufwa holum nga
Ulte ngal oeyä tìreyti sleykolu mek...

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u a ley nìtxan
To tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar
Kawkrr oel ke tswalma' ngat hufwa holum nga
Ulte ngal oeyä tìreyti sleykolu mek...

2x
Txo oel omum futa nga lu hu tuteo alahe
Oeri kxerakx txe'lan...oeyä txe'lan
Oe ke new tswiva', oe ke tsun tswiva'
Tsaswaw oengeyä säpomä a'awve, oe ke tsun tswiva'...

Txo fìswaw a nga new kllkxivem oe-eo nìmun
Fte oe tsivun tsive'a ’opinit nariyä ngeyä
Ulte oel stawm ngeyä mokrit, tsamokri alom nìtxan
Tsakrr, ma Eywa, oe niveiew tiverkup...

2x
Txo oel omum futa nga lu hu tuteo alahe
Oeri kxerakx txe'lan...oeyä txe'lan
Oe ke new tswiva', oe ke tsun tswiva'
Tsaswaw oengeyä säpomä a'awve, oe ke tsun tswiva'...

Translations are always a good way to practice a language :)
I can only go from the English translation you provided.

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta

Is this “(planet) Earth” or rather “ground, earth” as opposed to “sky”?

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u apxan nìtxan
Na tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar
Kawkrr oel ke tswalma' ngat hufwa holum nga
Ulte txolìng oeyä tìreyt amek...

“more dear than” – isn’t this a to construct?
ke lu oer ke’u a to tìyawn lu pxan :-\
But I think your solution is very creative and solves the problem well.
“you left my life empty” … your translation says “you left my empty life”. Not really the same thing, hm? ;) maybe: ngal oeyä tìreyti sleykolu mek “you caused my life to become empty” ?

Txo oe omum tsakrr nga hu tuteo alahe
Oeru kxerakx txe'lan...oeyä txe'lan

> Txo oel omum futa nga lu hu tuteo alahe.
Why oeru in “my heart breaks” ?

Txo fìswaw a nga new kllkxivem eo key oeyä nìmun
Fìfya oe tsun tsive'a narit 'opinä ngeyä

“In front of me” – poetic license or why not eo oe?
I’d interpret this “so” as “in order to” fte
Your translation says “I can see the eye of your colour” ;) > ’opinit nariyä

Oh my goodness ma Plumps, Irayo! :D

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta
Is this “(planet) Earth” or rather “ground, earth” as opposed to “sky”?
Intre cer si pamant = Between (the) heaven/sky and (the) Earth
I'm sure it means the (planet) Earth. "pământ" means ground but also earth, like in German, Erde (Planet) vs. Erde (Grund, Boden, Oberfläche) :)

Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u apxan nìtxan
Na tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar
Kawkrr oel ke tswalma' ngat hufwa holum nga
Ulte txolìng oeyä tìreyt amek...

That "more dear then" is an English translation (which I don't wrote) of that idiomatic Romanian sentence.
A - Intre cer si pamant nu am nimic mai scump = Between the heaven/sky and the earth, I have (not) nothing much/very expensive/dear. = Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u apxan nìtxan = Zwischen Himmel und Erde habe ich nichts sehr "wertolles" / was von "wert"
"scump" means usually "expensive" but it means, also "dear", if one say it relating with/to a person. This is an idiomatic component which can also translated with "worth", as in the sense of "this person is worth to me".

B - Ca dragostea ce ti-o port tie = Like the love which I carry/wear/bring for/to you = Na tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar = Wie die Liebe, die ich dir bringe / die ich für dich bringe.

Good call at "you left my life empty". :) That sentence is an idiom, I think.
What about this: Ulte ngal txolìng oet kuma oeyä tìrey slolu mek... ? :-\
But your solution is also very nice! :)

Txo oe omum tsakrr nga hu tuteo alahe
Oeru kxerakx txe'lan...oeyä txe'lan
> Txo oel omum futa nga lu hu tuteo alahe.
Why oeru in “my heart breaks” ?
'Ä'! Indeed there should be "Txo oel omum futa nga lu hu tuteo alahe." :-[
As for oeru, because kxakx is intransitive and the question "Wem zerbricht das Herz? - Mir" It's in Romanian as well as in German dative? ???
Mi se frange inima...inima mea = Mir zerbricht das Herz...mein Herz ...it's not really possible to say the same in English

Hmm, I see what I did there... eo oe / oe-eo
About fte, I also thought about. I've interpreated that "so" as " [sentence]...in this way I can see the color of your eye. But I see, fte fit there better.
As for the color thing, *facepalm* of course ’opinit nariyä :-[

Nìprrte’ ;)

So, you interpret that as two separate sentences?
Okay, because if it’s supposed to be one, na doesn’t work. It’s the difference between:
1) I have nothing dear. Like the love that I carry. (strange since love should be dear)
2) I have nothing more dear than the love that I carry. = Love is more dear than the thing (that is nothing) = to construct

Good call at "you left my life empty". :) That sentence is an idiom, I think.
What about this: Ulte ngal txolìng oet kuma oeyä tìrey slolu mek... ? :-\

Hm, kuma needs a nìtxan or nìftxan
Tsakem lamu keftxo nìftxan kuma sngolä’i oe tsngivawvìk.
That was so upsetting that I started to cry.

I don’t know if that works with constructs other than lu+adj. “You left me so (e.g. quickly) that …” ??? Don’t know if this is valid.

Mi se frange inima...inima mea = Mir zerbricht das Herz...mein Herz ...it's not really possible to say the same in English

But that’s a word/word translation of a Romanian/German idiom into Na’vi. Intransitive verbs don’t work that way. The dative there doesn’t always ‘replace’ the direct object that a transitive verb would take.

“my heart breaks” = oeri txe’lan kx(er)akx or oeri txe’lan slu fwel.

Hmm, there would be both possible. But yes, it would make more sense as one sentence.
So, I should replace na by to?
Mìkam taw sì 'rrta, ke lu oer ke'u apxan nìtxan
To tìyawn a fì'ut oel munge ngar

:o Tam. So, I better use (and I used) your original idea "Ulte ngal oeyä tìreyti sleykolu mek...". :)

Oops...
I like the oeri version! :)
