Fail at failing  ;D

How about a fail at not failing?... or did I just fail in trying to be creative?

I think this belongs here, even though there's a slight chance it could be a win.

Whoa.  Um....well, I wonder what they were thinking.  All male characters who flip a switch and become heroes...but one of them does not belong because his original intent was not to become a hero. I'm baffled.

The above image is personally disturbing. I agree with Seze on the hero comment.

I actually remember these photos from years ago as they are famous, in a sad way.

I did some quick digging with some old web links and found the history behind this.  I thought it important to include the details...

From the ArmyAirForces of WWII forum:

This was Mission 358 to Berlin May 19th 1944.....the lower B-17G was "Miss Donna Mae II "  (42-31540 ? ) 331BS / 94BG (the square A is visible on the tail in the second photo ) (Lt.  M.U.Reid ).  The 1000 lbs were from Lt. J. Winslett's B-17F  "Trudy" ( I think 42-97791 ) of the 332BS.

The bomb load of the upper and lower planes were dropped at or nearly at the same time.  Either due to wind, or poor piloting, the lower plane shifted from being at/under the right wing of the upper plane, to directly underneath it and was apparently trying to get back into position... too late.

The 1000lb bomb (which requires some settable distance through air to activate) sheared off the left stabilizer and very likely tore/destroyed the rudder control cables at the same time.  The plan went into an uncontrollable roll/spin.  From what details were posted in a discussion, a wing came off in the subsequent spin and no-one got out.
