Self defense is sadly a thing you have to learn nowerdays :(
But if the other guy pulls out a knife or even a gun you'll probably have a problem...

I didn't own one by myself but I was a member in a sport gun club. And there you'll obviously need one ^^

Mostly it's in our constitution.  Simply put, we have the right to own a gun for protection purposes.  Granted, this was written when America was still a fledgling country, so we needed a way to protect our citizens should Britian invade with us unawares.

Today, though, it's still for protection, but from each other.  Also, we own them for hunting, exhibition shooting, and for fathers, chasing away punks trying to get inside their daughter's pants (I apologize for bluntness, but that's the darn truth).

But if the other guy pulls out a knife or even a gun you'll probably have a problem...

You can still beat the crap out of the other guy if you know your martial arts.  Break the elbow in the weapon hand (you have to be fast about it), then kick out their knee.

No martial arts here ^^
But that wont help you if he's 10 or 15m away - and I'm in doubt you could dodge the bullet at that distance. But this really must a badass guy if he really is willing to pull the trigger...

But I'll agree with you having a gun at home for defense isn't that bad at all - depending on where you live. Nothing is clearer to understand than the ka-chak! from a 12 g pumpgun loading the shell ^^

What you do if he's at a distance then is you take cover, find the heaviest thing you can grab (but still light enough to throw) and when you think it's right, you come out of hiding, immediately throwing it so he has to dodge.  While he is dodging, you can either elect to run to a farther area where you can grab something better to defend yourself, or you can charge and do what you can to disarm him.

If it's some crackhead he might draw the gun and fire immediately - no chance
But let's change topic, I don't like to think about getting shot ;)

That's not a gat: that's an assault rifle.

This little XM214 (15kg) bastardo goes up to 10,000 rounds per minute o0 o0 o0 o0

You can chop a tree with it, Mythbusters checked it out with a .30 model @ 3,000 rounds per minute!

i go for 50cal sniper. :) i hit you form a mile away and even if i miss your face by a foot i still rip your face skin off. :)
Neytiri: Now you choose your woman. This you must feel inside. If she also chooses you, move quick like I showed.
Jake: How will I know if she chooses me?
Neytiri: She will try to kill you.
Jake: Outstanding. *takes out an ikran-catcher and walks through hometree looking for women*

That's what I mean by efficiency. Why shoot 10.000 rounds if you could achieve the same with one single shot (though it makes more fun -- but war isn't fun) ^^

I'd prefer a lighter weight sniper... 7.62mm... if i miss that badly i deserve to be shot and a 7.62 will work just as well if it hits... and its lighter... so more bullets for less weight.

But with an .50 you can do some nice armor piercing. And it just bangs louder ^^

Just for comparing sizes ^^

An M82A1 weights about 13kg unloaded if I remember right so I don't think that really matters. Or you just need another guy who carries all your stuff ^^
