It's just a weekly upload ... if you stick to a plan it is doeable ;) But believe me, I wasn't sure whether I could do it and every week I think "today is the day I won't do it" :P

Thank you that you think that way.

Greetings Teacher,
These videos are awesome, and I predict they will have a long shelf life. I have a question for you though. Maybe I should have used private message, but I am having enough trouble sorting out all these sites.... Yesterday I entered the wonderful Discord Community. Wow, that was so overwhelming, like jumping into the deep end. Today my brain is fried. :'( I get vocabulary, and I understand grammar rules. The tough part is putting it all together. I wish there were Na'vi soap operas. I gain fluency that way and find it easier to talk to others. Hope i am making sense. I think I may be at the next level...human contact  >:( and I could use some suggestions. [Please don't say jump in to the deep end again, it doesn't improve my understanding, just makes me feel socially nervous.]

Many thanks in advance,

Sa'sum (Shelley)

It was nice to meet you on the Discord. :)  I can understand that we have a lot going on.  Everyone is different in their learning preferences.  So, you would prefer immersive exposure over instruction? It makes sense because it's a little more naturalistic.  Especially for common situational phrases or words.  Technically, we don't need to know why certain things are said the way they are, we just need to know when they are said.  Indeed it's a shame we don't have more Na'vi-language media like the soaps you suggested.  Closest thing we have are songs, but without the lyric/translation text, these are largely unintelligible compared to a TV show or movie where you can at least see what's happening and make sense of what people say a little bit based on what's happening.  Who knows, maybe one day something like this might come to exist.  I'll be thinking about how to accommodate your style.  Maybe others here have some ideas in the meantime. :)

Ma Shelley,

you raise an interesting point. But I won't tell you one thing over the other ;)
As Tirea said, everybody has to find their best way of learning and use the tools that are available as best they can to accomodate their needs. I won't tell you to jump in to the deep end. Instead, I suggest that you do what feels comfortable to you. You know yourself better than anyone. Only you can tell when your brain gets to that point of frying ... ideally you should stop before that ;) Your eltu is important, you'll need it :)

Help on Discord is (usually) instant, direct and there are a lot of people willing to help. But it can get overwhelming at times, especially because there are as many ways to explain something as there are ways to learn them. So, know yourself good enough to know when you reach that point where it just doesn't fit anymore for this study session. And have the courage to say that. We are not mindless machines ;) and even those have only a maximum storage unit :P Also your brain needs time to process.

I'd suggest you concentrate on one aspect that you want to learn. As tempting as it may be to get distracted and be interested in everything at once, it won't help you in the long run when you confuse everything ;)

Concentrate on one thing and feel relatively comfortable with that until you go on. You can always dive deeper later or revisit what you've learnt.

Yeah, I wish as well we had more visual/audio based works (not necessary soap opera :P ) but I know what you mean. This is an instance where it is a real disadvantage to be interested in a conlang. Because we have to create the things we want to see. We have to be there for each other and help each other out — in listening and speaking exercises :)

Ma Plumps,

Very useful advice. I think I have a plan mapped out for the summer. I will see how it goes. Many thanks!
