While reading through an interview, i found this example of infixes, "tovaron, telaron, tusaron, tairon" I do not believe that i have seen <ov> or <ai> anywhere, although there is no reference as to in what way these change the verb, we can say for certain that these are infixes.

I would take care with that list — tairon, for example, breaks the rules we do know.

The guy who did that interview didn't seem very linguistically sophisticated, and apparently didn't bother to get Frommer to verify spellings from what I assume was a phone interview.

I'm trying to work out what the -ur suffix indicates on the word for "friends" which appears in the letter from Prof. Frommer.

If 'eylan is the noun: friend, then ay-eylan-ur would be the plural friends with the -ur suffix indicating something.
What does -ur indicate, I don't think that it is one I've seen before, I don't see that affix in the Inflections.pdf, or in this thread.

Taronyu

New affix. Dative. Allomorph of -r, -ru.

Fairly certain. Keep meaning to update my document.

-ur is the dative suffix when following a word ending in a consonant (like 'eylan).

The dative case generally means that the English translation involves/can be rewritten to involve "to ___".

It is commonly used with the verb to give (tìng) to indicate the recipient, to be (lu) to indicate a possessor and to seem (lam IIRC) to indicator the supposer.

Hey guys,

I took the stuff from the first post, tidied up the grammar etc and added some more examples to the fixes.

If there's anything wrong, needs changing/adding let me know.

Tìrey Tsmukan

Irayo, Oeri Tsmukan. this was quite helpful... Right up until I started reading the replies. lol. though when i got done with that, it made sense again.

Quotetu:indicates a person associated with the verb. hunt with tu becomes prey (or hunter also?)

Is it really possible that "tarontu" can also mean "hunter" ? I thought that was taken care of by the "yu", taronyu?
Just like spe'e = capture --> spe'etu = captive, spe'eyu = captor.
I mean it would make little sense if a word was that ambigious.

Oh yeah, and why not add the infix -äp- to the list? Or are we not adding stuff from emails?

-us- used to indicate when a verb is used as an adjective. sleeping dogs, flying birds. the words are still verbs but they are used to describe a noun.

If we use  - us - with a verb and make it an adjective

do we say h<us>ahaw tute or h<us>ahaw-a tute ( or tute a-h<us>ahaw) ?

for sleeping human

We got clarification about this just in the last day.  You use the attribute marker -a-, so h‹us›ahawa tute.

Also, note that tute is person, not human.  It presumably applies to Na'vi and Human alike.

This is great! I was wondering now that I'm making sentences (bad but still somewhat intelligible!) how to form possessives, plurals and all that.
