Neyn'ite Te Tsahìk Txeptsyìp'ite

what is 'ing' when added at the end of a word in Na'vi?

oeyä tsmukan, ma Nick, oeru ngaytxoa livu. nìmwey tsurokx. nga yawne lu oer.

Ftxavanga Txe′lan

Na'vi in a Nutshell says:

QuoteThe Active Participle Infix <us>

This infix, which is placed in the <1> location, turns the -ing form of the verb into an adjective:

tswayon to fly -> tsw<us>ayon flying
tswusayona ikran the flying ikran

fyawìntxu to guide -> fyaw<us>wìntxu guiding
atan afyawuswìntxu guiding light

:)

Neyn'ite Te Tsahìk Txeptsyìp'ite

how is fyawuswìntxu right? aren't infixes put in front of the first, second and/or third vowels? unless I'm crazy, w isn't a vowel; and there suddenly appears to be two w's in fyawuswìntxu. ???

Yayo

Or are you referring to a verb?
Example: I am running

If so, then that is the <er> infix in the position <1>.

Ekirä

The <er> infix is used when you're "verbing".

Poe poanur p<er>lltxe > she's speaking to him

And use tì- and <us> (which is also placed in the <1> position) in a verb to create a gerund

Poeri tì-p<us>lltxe ngäzìk lu > speaking is difficult for her

HRH seems that you caught a typo. :P It's supposed to be afyawusìntxu...

'Oma Tirea

As Tirea Aean has said, there are 3 ways to translate the "ing" ending:

<er>: I am running
<us>: A running person
tì-<us>: They love running

seems that Ftxavanga Txe'lan rewrote it in wrong way, correct is really
fyawìntxu to guide → fyaw<us>ìntxu guiding atan a-fyawusìntxu guiding light
as comes from current version of NiaN

<ol> position 1.

Or ‹awn› in 1

yerik atawnaron, the hunted yerik

<us> would still be required in this example; taron is a verb..

Why? If <us> was used instead of <awn>, it would be "the hunting yerik" instead of with <awn> making it "the hunted yerik".

Tswusayona Tsamsiyu

for "ed" as in past tense (the <awn> thing was already established) we use either the infix <am> (general past), or <ìm> (close/recent past), or <ol> (perfective action. similar to Perfect Simple in English).
Nivume Na'vit, fpivìl nìNa'vi, kivame na Na'vi.....

<us> would still be required in this example; taron is a verb..
why?
yerik atusaron = hunting yerik, that one which is on the hunt (he hunts other creatures)
yerik atawnaron = hunted yerik, that one which is being hunted (other creatures hunt him)
<us>/<awn> changes verb into adjective

Why did you repeat what Ekirä said nearly two minutes before..?

ninja'd. happens to everyone sooner or later.

I came to say all that which has been said. particulary waht 'Oma Tirea said, quoting me.

'Oma Tirea

Sran, and I was recently thinking about translations of the English -ed.  Here's what I came up with:

<awn>: pulled pork
<ol>, <am>, <alm>: I (have) ran.
<ìm>, <ìlm>: That (has) just happened.

Notably this is a difficult aspect of Na'vi for English speakers to figure out for reasons noted above.
