Insane stacking up of prefixes in nouns
« on: March 05, 2011, 09:12:12 pm »
I just tried to quantify all the possible ways a noun could get bigger and it seems nearly limitless!  The most extreme example I could come up with:

fìfrapxevopxìorifnepekxamläsì

fì- fra- pxe+ fne- vo-pxì -o -ri -pe kxamlä sì

this-all-three-kind-eight-th-some-topical-what-through_the_middle-and

and regarding through the middle of which of all these certain kind of three-eighths

Is this actually (or nearly) possible?!?!?!?!  ???

Not quite to that degree.  Case markers and adpositions don't go together.  -pe would come before any case marker, and it's not clear to me that it and -o can coexist.

-ri -pe

It's incorrect. We use cases after -pe :) And we never use adpositions with any cases except nominative (which is without ending), so kxamlä is impossible with -ri together.

fì- fra-

this-all

fra- actually means "every", I think fìfra does not make sense. And I think vo is a root here. But I'm not sure that it's possible to use fne- after the root... Please check your example again.

What about me+, pxe+ combined with fì-, tsa-, and pe+?  I would assume the numerical prefix comes after the demonstrative...

That's completely correct. I don't remember exactly, but I think that we got examples from Pawl where he wrote fìme- and fìpxe-. But even if we have not those examples, I'm completely sure of this rule :)

But everything else?

fìfrapxefnevopxìpekxamläsì

and through the middle of which of all these kinds of three-eights?

A = fì- or tsa-
B = fra-
C = number (Sing., Dual, Trial, Pl.)
D = fne-
the word
E = if a number -vo or -pxì
F = -o or -pe
G = Case or Adposition
H = -sì

A noun can have any or all of A-H?

Yes, fne- was supposed to be before the root.

Also, don't we say (In English) "All these things" and "all those times" and "every (one of) these flowers" and "every (one of) those tigers"?

3.3.6 in the grammar looks like fì- and fra- can coexist.  But even it not, that still leaves

frapxefnevopxìpekxamläsì

and through the middle of which kind of all three eighths?

Thanks for putting up with me through this, ma frapo.  I'm trying to write a computer program to construct and decipher words, but I need to know all possible combinations first.

A = fì- or tsa- (which combine with ay+) (pe+ could appear here instead)
B = fra- (which combines with ay+
C = number (Sing., Dual, Trial, Pl. - including the "disappearing" plural)
D = fne-
the word
E = if a number -vo or -pxì
F = -o or -pe
G = Case (all 12 forms) or Adposition
H = -sì

fu can be enclitic/attached?!  That's not in the grammar (cp 6.19.3 vs 6.19.5.2)!  Man, this is gonna be hard to program!  ;D
