How to be amazed with <eyk>?
« on: October 03, 2012, 07:08:32 am »
This question raised when I was finding way how to express that someone is surprised (thanks to Alyara Arati for cooperation!).
So, base sentence is Tsaw wou -> That's amazing! Great! Cool!
But I need to say that something amazed me, so we need transitive verb:
Fì'ul weykou oeti (This amazes me). But is it good result? IMO it means This caused me to be amazing (to someone else), what is not intended.

Based on: Eytukanìl teykolaron yerikit Neytirir -> 'Eytukan caused Neytiri to hunt hexapede' I would expect:
*Fì'ul weykou tsa'ut oeru -> This causes that thing to be amazing to me (= I'm amazed by that thing). What I don't like: AFAIK <eyk> adds to verb just one argument, not two....

So, what is correct solution (if it exists...) ?

I admit, I haven't thought it through extensively yet as this is very early morning for me but,

tsaw oeru wou  this is amazing to me  OR maybe even oeri tsaw wou  as for me, this is amazing...

If you said I'm amazed [at that thing] you are saying That thing is amazing to me, right?

Simple as tsaw wou oer!

If you’re a linguist:
Oeru woeiu lì’fya leNa’vi. (“I’m just fascinated by the Na’vi language.”)

      -If you’re a botanist.:
Mì na’rìng Tsyeykìl loreyuti ’olampi a tsaswaw WOU oer nìwotx!
(“That instant when Jake touched the Helicoradiam Spirale in the forest I was totally amazed.”)

Seems that I was thinking too much - or not too much? ;D
thanks for comments, wou in base form seems to be enough.

Actually wou is not a true Na'vi verb, it's just adapted English interjection «wow». I think we should not use infixes with it.

Why not? … it’s given as w‹1›o‹2›u and example sentences contain
