On weekdays anything from 4 pm - 10 pm fine for me.

Naturally, weekends are wide open for me.

6-7 pm would be great for me.  I know I'm usually busy up through 5 with school and dinner, so mid evening is great.

So far we have no absolute objections to 6:00 PM. Unless anyone objects in the next two days, this is the time I'm going to tell Tirea on Friday. Please let us know if you cannot make this time.

Thanks,

6pm on which days? I seem to have missed something--how frequently shall we meet for class?

For now, 6pm on the day of the first meeting--Friday May 21, right?

Right now I'm just looking for a meeting time for the first day, May 21. If we need to change the time later on for subsequent meetings, we'll do it when it becomes necessary. Until then, all we need to know is a time for the first meeting.

All of the TA's are having a meeting this Friday (the 14th) at 10:00AM our time, so we'll probably learn more about what we need to do for the 21st.

You have no idea how much trouble this caused me once upon a moon...I kept that one of them meant "song" and the other was something else, then they'd switch, and it finally dawned on me to look them both up at the same time and realize that yes, Na'vi actually does have a synonym.  :D Seriously. Actually took like two months.

It's the closest thing we have since there's no word for "birth" yet. The words literally translate one-for-one as:

nitram txen krr ma nga
happy awake day VOC you

I don't see tìrol and way as exact synonyms.

However, for "to you", it would be "ngaru" not "ma nga".  You can use ma on the third line though.

I don't see tìrol and way as exact synonyms.

Well, for way, we have waytelem, "songchord" and nguway, "howl, Viperwolf cry", which leads me to believe that way might refer to more incidental music, whereas because tìrol is simply the noun form of the word rol, "to sing", perhaps tìrol refers to intentionally created or planned music. However, if I'm not mistaken, the ASG states that the Na'vi would find it foolish to actually study music, and that participating in musical events is a cultural rather than academic process.

This is all speculation, but, I mean, both words are simply given in the dictionary as "song".

However, for "to you", it would be "ngaru" not "ma nga".  You can use ma on the third line though.

Very true. If I were to write out the song, I would personally use something along the lines of lefpoma ftxozä ngeyä, lit. "joyous celebration your", but that's not a sentence by any stretch of the imagination. It's a shame that Sìlpey oe tsnì ngeyä ftxozä leru lefpom nìtxan., lit. "Hope I that your celebration is very happy." has so many more syllables than does "Happy Birthday to you."

Anyway, thanks again to anyone that wished me a happy birthday.

6 PM Friday sounds good to me as well, ma eylan.

Oregon, just west of Portland to be exact. I look forward to learning, I have general pronounciation down, it's really the infixes and add ones, like eylan. I would say that in plural, but do not know how, but know that that is what it means :)

Anyways, yeah, Fridays around 6, excellent... Especially when I get my reg laptop back from Fry's.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I am going to announce I am pulling out of both being a TA and a student. Since I signed up several weeks ago, things have taken a bad turn in my life. I am left with much less free time, and I cannot predict when that free time will be. Unfortunately, careers make it tough to adjust one's schedule by very much.

I hope this project goes really well. I will continue to learn Na`vi when it can 'fit in the cracks'. But regular, timed activities are out for at least a while.

Thanks for understanding,
`Eylan Ayfalulukanä

I live in the Eastern Time Zone, but if you West Coasters are going to have your lessons at 6 p.m. your time, that would work out much better for me.   If so, count me in.

Another suggestion, instead of naming the groups GMT-* where * equals a number,  how about having each group name themselves and then the time that group is meeting in GMT time.  So the US West Coast group would not be GMT-8 they would be "some name" (Time they meet, not timezone)

--Suggestion by Seze. (Person who made post #1 in this topic,)You may now edit the name of this timezone board with the cooperation of the people in this group and every group must have a different name from every other group. You may now continue to use this topic to discuss times. BUT PLEASE PUT YOUR SUGGESTIONS, PROBLEMS, AND QUESTIONS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STICKY TOPICS. thanks guys!!

I suggested something along the lines of "Clan of the Western Sea", because we're probably all along the Pacific coast, but then again, cardinality is relative. If anyone else has an idea they like better, feel free to share.

Regarding future meetings, I believe that, due to the success of our first meeting and time, there is no reason to change anything about when we will have meetings. Luckily, my end-of-quarter schedule hasn't collapsed on me yet and Fridays are still available, so I should be on the TS server at about 5:20 like I was last week, and we should start at 6:00-ish like we did on the 21st. Hopefully this time is still available for everyone.
