ASK QUESTIONS HERE
« on: April 24, 2010, 04:57:45 pm »
This is the Facebook message that I am sending to my Facebook friends who are interested. I figured this post should also be on the forum, so here it is:

Project NgayNume is my new Learn Na'vi experiment. I am recruiting students. We will be taking a new approach to learning. With the ideals of Slimz and ExLibrisMortis, my colleagues from Teamspeak3.(ts.learnnavi.org:9987) Their hypothesis is that if we use direct association, we will truly learn the language and that translation is not the most effective method.

What we will do:

We will use a skype group to start with. If that group gets too large, I will move the class to the learnnavi.org Teamspeak3 server(you can find info on that in the website info bord on the forum here.("Teamspeak server ONLINE!") I will have a private channel for us.

We will also use tree of voices. More on that when the group comes together on that friday.

We are going to learn this language. Not translate it. We are going to speak it, read it. And write it with NO translation to other languages. We will be able to do all of this by associating the Na'vi words to concepts, thoughts and ideas, rather than English words.

If you are interested in being a student participant in Project NgayNume, please respond with a yes, and/or any questions about the project.

Ngaru seiyi irayo.

The Project is to launch Friday, 21 May 2010. The hour which that is will be decided after I know how many and which countries the students are from. I will try to work out a sensible time to have class each friday thereafter. Nume ko!

Gah, friday's will rarely work for me. Shame, I'd love to be a part of this.

(Though I suspect for a lot of the time most of what we'll here will be "Oe ke tsolam." or "Peu? Plltxe nìmune." :P)

Ma ftiafpi, no. The launch is on a Friday. We are still working out what day and time to do this weekly. And I made a FB event for it with info. Link is in my forum signature. This project will be very simple. Hopefully successful. You won't miss much opening Friday, but if you want, I can fill you in on what happened.

Because of world timezones, Project NgayNume will be taking place the entire day of Friday 21 May 2010.

It will be on Teamspeak3

I am excited as well! Send me a pm if you wanna be a teacher. A teacher should know Some Na'vi already. I should actually call them TA (teaching assistants). Of course all suggestions of what kind of classwork and homework we will do are welcome! Got ideas? Post them here! So TAs will help me with lesson plans and whatnot. We got so many people coming, I may need several channels. We will see how it turns out on opening Friday. Again pm me with inquiries for TA positions. if you want to be a student, do the same. Just tell me your name and what you want to be/bring to the project.

Thanks for your interest!

Me too. I think I'm at the point now where I could really start talking to others, except for tenses. Right now I'm just pressed for time so studying tenses just isn't in the curriculum. When finals are over though...

I'm kinda sorta interested. Biggest challenges are finding a time on a Friday to participate. Although I too have much to learn, I would have some interest in being a karyu if it would enable a class at a time where other students could join that was not the time you are doing it. I think there may be othrs interested in teaching if they could also have their own timeslots.

I just RSVP'ed on Facebook.  I'm definitely going to try to be there if I am with my mother for that weekend.  My parent's are divorced, but my dad would probably excuse me if I am trying to learn Na'vi with you all.

Yes, actually that is the idea i was thinking of already.

World time zones are spread across the globe as for current students. I said I will need TAs to help me out here. I was originally going to do a weekly class on THE day and time agreed upon by the most students.BUT what that will do is leave out the ones who cant make it on that day/time. THAT is NOT what I want. I want a few TAs logged on several times on the day agreed upon. that way, we cover all the timezones. I WANT TAs with differing timezones to make this possible. I am GMT-5. there are many people who are GMT-8, GMT, GMT+1, GMT+8 and such. the more diversity of the TAs the better. I have no applications so far. everyone wants to be a student. TAs can do the same classwork/homework as the students if they so please. TAs will simply be appointed to a few admin tasks and duties (really NOT that many at that). so please if you have interest, send me a PM! you dont have to know a lot of Na'vi to be a TA.
