is there a way that instead of launching the wine firefox it will launch the regular one? i got it to do that successfully with the manage applications section. perhaps a way for it to launch Adobe reader too?
Try setting the Linux native browser and PDF reader using the new "Alternative Launching" tab in the settings.

If native apps still don't work, try this for the browser (the PDF reader is done similarly):
* Add the Linux Firefox to the applications list in Manage Applications. For the apps name, call it LinuxFF. Once added, make sure it runs, then quit Avatray.
* In the INI, find the [App#] section with a Name=LinuxFF in it. Copy the value of Path from that section, and paste it in [Web] as Browser. Save the INI, and restart the program.
* If the browser refuses to run, try setting AltBrowserModeEnabled=2.

Hopefully either the settings or the manual method will get them working. :)

To all: Sorry for the messy thread and all the edits. I'm not used to being limited to one thread for releases, bugs, and support...

Does the configuration file stay the same, so we can just swap out the same one without having to updated everything?

The config files are mostly the same. The only difference is that new values get added between releases for new features. Old files should be compatible.

As of 0.2.2, the config file from 0.2 and 0.2.1 will work fine. If you open settings and press OK, the config file will be updated automatically to include most of 0.2.2's new values. Note though that updating the file like this will not add new comments or manual-edit-only settings.

If you want to update to the new file, you can keep your Applications by copying the [Apps] section and all [App#] sections from your old file to the new file (replace the ones in the new file).

I'll consider adding some better way to update config files in 0.2.3.

Thanks.

They'll be in 0.2.3 - It'll probably be a new years eve release... Been busy with other stuff.

To all: Just to let everyone know, I'm going out of town for 3 days starting sometime Tuesday. There's no PC where I'm going (and my ancient laptop doesn't have wireless or my dev software), but I should have internet via my Wii. If I don't respond to your posts, I'll get them on Thursday night.

EDIT: Changed "To all"...bad weather.
EDIT2: Crossed out "To all".

Full changes list and download are in the first post.

Happy new years everybody!

For some reason, the new version(not sure about the previous versions) requires you to press cancel instead of the red X in the upper right on anything that launches outside of the toolbar menu. The red X doesn't work.

Other than that, this is one of the best apps I've seen come out of this site.

Thanks for that. Just fixed it :) I'll post 0.2.4 sometime later tonight or tomorrow.

new one works brilliantly for me with option 1 shellexecute workaround ubuntu 10.10. it opens the windows firefox in wine, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. now perhaps i will add an app to it and get back with a report.

One more thing, when you launch from Avatray to one of the pages and use Safari like I do, you have to use Alternate Method 1 and specify the Safari shortcut on your desktop as the Executable Browser. It still launches the browser, but it also launches a warning. Specifying Alt Meth. 1 clears this up.

If you don't yet have one, I'll be willing to be your Safari browser tester.

I'm assuming you mean this issue:

It's caused by the way the association is created in the registry. The application is configured to use DDE, but doesn't support it. Old versions of Firefox (3.0 and older) suffered from the same issue. Apple should have programmed Safari to disable the DDE when it associates with URLs.

I can work around it in 0.2.4...I'll add a check that sets up Alt Method 1 automatically if Safari is detected as your default browser.

Thanks for the offer. I'll add the check for Safari in 0.2.4. Would you mind verifying that it configures Alt Method 1 automatically?

EDIT: Fixed in 0.2.4. Avatray will automatically configure Alt Mode 1 if Safari is the default browser.

0.2.4 is out. Change log and download in first post (as always...).

@Kätsyín te Zotxekay Tsyal'itan:

Can you try the Safari workaround?

To test:
* In settings, change the browser path field to something that's NOT Safari.
* Select "Use Windows default browser".
* OK the settings dialog, then quit Avatray.
* Restart Avatray. You should receive a message about your default browser being Safari.
* Open the settings. The Alternate Launching should be set to Method 1, and Safari's EXE should be in the Browser Path.

Yup. You nailed it. The browser message appears and it sets it back to Safari.

Definitely karma for you.
