Na'vi Refigerator Poetry

Yeah, you read that right.

I have way too many projects on my plate right now to do this, but know that I am always thinking of all of you ma aytsmuktu. In my never-ending quest to find new ways to make Na'vi FUN (and easy) to learn, this is my newest idea. Unfortunately I am busy with another (secret) project for my beloved aytsmuktu, so I can't give my full attention to this right now.

It is just too expensive to try to make these up and give them away, so here's the idea. Take the words list. Find the right font size (probably Airal Narrow - 12 point) and print your word list and cut and glue THOSE onto a store-bought fridge-poetry set.

Voila! Now you can practice playing with your Na'vi words easily (after all, EVERYONE goes to the fridge at least a few times a day. I think some medicine cabinet mirrors are hold magnets also.

If you want to work on your grammar, you can add RED letters to add as pre- and suffixes, and as for infixes, well you can break up common words and have infixes standing by for easy placement.

I know, I know. I am too nice to everyone. Seriously--thoughts? Let's flesh out the problems with this idea (not LEGAL problems--we aren't selling anything) and see if we can figure out how to best make this work. I think you can buy magnetic sheets that you can print on at Staples, or large label sheets that you can glue ON to magnetic sheets and cut. Let me know if you have any improvements to this idea. This thread is all about brainstorming.

I think this is a wonderful idea. Even though my fridge isn't magnetic... I'll stick it to something. Maybe my mom's file cabinet. Maybe I'll grasp the -fix things finally. Maybe I'll make a placemat of some sort to reinforce grammar and such when I'm eating haha

ooh! Good idea! I like your spirit! yes, creative ways of fitting learning/practicing Na'vi easily into daily life is of key importance. Thank you thank you for that place mat idea ;-)

Yeah, I was thinking about that (a lot). You might need to have full words, and fragments (common letter pairs) so that you can build words on the fly when needed.

Good idea. Hmmm. What can we add to this. splitting up common root words is a great idea so we can add infixes, but that could lead to some frustration. If you wanted to work on a smaller scale, you could do something similar to the magnetic alphabet letters, and just work on spelling out a word on the fridge.

One thing you could do is have words and then infixes and put them above the word it's modifying, probably the best solution.

I reckon naming your items is a good way to start. Think of a fork or knife as a "spear" for now, things like that. As for the infixes, I recommend printing both full words, and some normal letters (lots of x's now ) to put the words together. Anything you have in your house that belongs to JUST YOU, stick a label on with the possessive affix yä etc.

For Infix practice, I had a small idea. Make a small diary, and write maybe 20 words on your day. It doesn't have to be true, (maybe you rode your Ikran and killed something ) but it'll help get the idea of infixes into your head a lot easier.

At least, that's how I'm trying to learn them

Okay, so I have a special note just for anyone who reads **this post**. I am working on a secret project idea that I am hoping will help all of the new people have FUN learning Na'vi, and even make the old timers smile (even though they will breeze through my little project).

My problem is that I need test-subjects, to ensure that I am not making it too hard. Basically, I want to send you the "test PDF" and have you try it out. If you enjoy it, and if it is not too hard, it goes in the project. If you have fun with this, I would like to send you test PDFs every few days, as I develop them. All I ask is that you please keep this information confidential (no sense spoiling the surprise :-)

Oh yeah, and we can't sell it--because we don't own the copyrights--but we can make and distribute this to our forum members. :-)

Lenition's going to be a pain too. Maybe make unlenited versions in black and lenited lemmata with the changed letter in red, although I'm not sure how to highlight the lenition of ' ->
