Counting Book

This is one of the first of my Language Projects (as I call them), where I produce some sort of content with the language every week.  At the end of each week, I reflect on how well I did the project, and how well the project helped me learn the language.  Without further ado, here is the link to this week's project- a counting book in Na'vi that goes up to eight:

Reflection:

As my second Language Project, I feel that this wasn't too bad, and that overall I was successful at completing the task I set myself.  However, I do not feel that this helped me learn Na'vi very well.  I still have difficulty expressing simple concepts, which is to be expected at this state, yet at the same time I feel that I should at least have an idea of simple, everyday actions, like eating and drinking.  In hindsight, this is because I did not follow one of the most important rules of learning a language: Target your weakness.  Initially, I felt that I was following this rule by using pre-made flashcard decks on my computer, as I believed that my weakness was in my lack of vocabulary.  Now I can see that I was only half-correct.  My weakness was the vocabulary, in addition to the fact that I couldn't express basic things like eating and drinking.  This led to a false-start where I tried to learn just random Na'vi words (as evidenced by the book).  Now I know that I should use a dictionary and make my own flashcard decks, which I have started doing now.  Taking all of this into account, I feel that the next Project should be something that covers the everyday things I mentioned before, as well as something that incorporates some sort of spoken element- a video of some sort.  However, I have no idea what exactly my video is going to be.  I'm thinking maybe a sort of summary of my day or something like that. 

In regards to this Project, I expect that there will be a fair amount of errors, and that the text won't have a nice "flow" to it as it does with other languages I speak.

The other thing to watch out for here is the 'number principle'. When you state a specific number of an object, for instance, three grean leaves, it  is pxey rìk aean, not *pxey pxirik aean. The things being counted remain in the singular.

Srane.  "Pxey pxerìk aean" is like saying "three three blue leaves."  Pxe+ is the same thing as pxey, and is in fact derived from that word.

ma `Eylan, numbers are basically adjectives. Don't forget the a. (see my post above)

If anyone is curious about what the "Number Principle" actually says, here it is, in the words of Frommer himself:

Number Principle (Koren Holpxayä = KH):
In referring to the same entity, express number only once per clause.

three green leaves would also very likely be pxerìk aean or eana pxerìk just as well as pxeya rìk aean or eana rìk apxey [...]
