I wrote a little application in Java that shows you the octal value of a given decimal number and this number in Na'vi, too.
So far it's available in English and German.
Just save and then doubleclick the .jar-file.
Notice: You need the Java Runtime Environment (I think at least version 1.3)!

If any of you spots an error (I'm not Eywa ;))or wants it translated into another language, please tell me!

Changelog now in README file.

I promise to inspect it when I gain access to a computer.  ;D

It accepts negative integers with... interesting results. ;D

I see... ;D
Fixed.

I suppose the Na'vi don't have negative numbers.
That wouldn't make sense.
Imagine -7 trees or -1 toruk fighting 5 ikran - who wins? ;)

(All updated versions will be at the top of the topic.)

Looks interesting...

I'll have to try it when I get to a real PC capable of Java (my 2001 laptop with 256MB RAM, 995Mhz processor, and IE6 isn't gonna work).

i did something similar.
It is a modification of the smf forum software which also learn na'vi uses that replaces decimal numbers with octal ones. It also works with fractions.

http://forum.learnnavi.org/navify-the-web/octal-numbers-for-smf-forums/
unfortunately the test forum doesn't work and the other test forum is temporarily down too.

so if someone is interested or wants to do something with php i can give you the source code.

Just tried the Java app. Works fine. :)

This going to help me a lot when it comes to the Na'vi words for numbers...

There's one tiny issue:

If there's a number with zam-something, and that something happens to start with m (mun, mrr), you end up with two m, e.g. 6910=1058=zammrr
I believe that the second m should be elided in all of those cases (zamrr for example).

any possible way for this to convert in the other direction? ie octal/na'vi to decimal?

Eywa'eveng-tìranyu

Yes, I'm working on it, bu since I'm back to school( :P) now and it's rather complex,
I think it may take 1 or 2 weeks

Results will be just as successful.. you hope. *Evil Laugh*

*enter regex magic*

There's a small Ruby program attached to this post that will just do this. I don't have a webserver to put it on, so you'll have to set up Ruby (1.9) on your system to use it. Sorry about that.

It'll read the Na'vi number from either the command line argument or STDIN, so for example:
$unnavi.rb mrrvomun
42
$unnavi.rb
mevozamzampuvomun
1138
$unnavi.rb < some_file_that_contains_the_number_zampuvomun
114
$

Note that the console encoding must support UTF-8 in order to work with the non-ASCII characters. Also, it doesn't check whether the input is a valid Na'vi number so it's pretty much garbage in, garbage out.

Feel free to re-use the guts of that for your own purposes.

Have fun!
