A couple of years ago, I found tutorials on the internet about how to make bound books.  With the printouts I'd made of the Na'vi educational documents and the Na'vi workbook I'd made a while back, I decided since I was going to be taking them with me everywhere, that I would like to bind them into a couple of books so they would stay nice.

I put the Na'vi alphabet, the old pocket guide, the phonetics guide, and the Na'vi to English dictionary in one book this weekend.  It's not as nice as I would have liked it to be, the paper I used on the cover is more of a card stock that cracked and peeled on the edges of the cover and the cloth that I used for the spine was too thin, and the glue showed through the fibers.  But I'm still proud of it, and can't wait to take it with me.  I'll just need to make a stickynote bra for the cover image - which was drawn by my beautiful, wonder girlfriend of her Na'vi OC, Menari - so that when I take it to work, I'm not offending anyone.  :D

I haven't started working on the workbook's binding yet, but I hope to do that soon.  Right now, I just have it printed off in front-and-back printing, two pages per side with left-side-spine binding style.  They're folded up in a "folio," but I haven't stapled them together or anything, so I need to bind it soon so I don't lose anything.

Oooh :o

Nice job, I do a similar thing with just a plain old folder, just write in notes and stuff as I learn. I like to do most of it by hand as it helps me remember but I got bored writing out the dictionary so I think that might be the one thing I print out ;D
Anyone feel free to add me on msn or skype: [email protected]

Irayo.  :D

I haven't gotten around to working on "notes" style things, mostly because I have the most time to work on it when I'm at work and have some extra time.  That's why I print the lessons and things off, so I can work on them there.  Doing it by hand is how I learn too, though, so that's why I printed off the workbook.  I was soooo happy when I saw they made that!  Though I was tempted to just hand-copy the dictionary word for word a few times, since that would have probably been the easiest way for me to learn the vocab.  It'd just be soooo time consuming.  @_@

If you give it another go, I'd recommend substituting Na'vi in a Nutshell for the pocket guide...  At the current time, it is much more correct and up to date.

I did just find that guide today, and I'm definitely thinking about binding that one as well.  I love the textbook layout it had.  We need to get new printer ink, though.  One of the members of my household is looking for a job, and has been printing off a lot of applications, so we've been going through printer's ink like nobody's business.   :(  When she saw I'd printed off some of the Na'vi stuff - the first time I've used the printer in literally MONTHS, she got a little ticked.  :/  ah well.

I am using a 3 ring binder for my learn Na`vi materials. I have tabs for various things; Pronunciation, grammar, examples, numbers, quick-guides, Na`vi-English, English-Na`vi lexicons, and a section with the parts of the activity book that isn't duplicated elsewhere. This format makes updates and additions very easy to do. I keep a pull-out quick vocabulary guide in one of the pockets. I'd share a picture, but there isn't much to see. I would like to put some nice art on the front cover.

Another nice feature-- the format makes it really easy to run off a copy of the whole thing for anyone that is interested. I have made one of these already.

I'd recommend waiting until at least version 1.9 is released (which will be in the next few days) to save paper.
