Quote from: Paul FrommerDear Community members of LearnNavi.org,

A full-page ad ran in the Los Angeles Times, "The Envelope" supplement, Wed., Feb. 10. It was for an iPhone app, "The Envelope App."

The graphic was an iPhone with the App going. This was the complete text:

      [PSEUDO-NA'VI, IN SINGLE QUOTES,
ALL CAPS, LARGE FONT. 17 CHARACTERS ONLY.
]

      [SLIGHTLY SMALLER FONT, ALL CAPS]
       THAT'S NA'VI FOR
       YOU'RE GOING DOWN

      [Small type, upper/lower]
Take on top film critics and writers in a
race to predict who will win the Oscars.
Get live news feeds from our entertainmen
experts. Buy low. Sell high. Then beat
      them at their own game.

                       [LOGO]

             Los Angeles Times
            THE ENVELOPE APP
         Nominate yourself to win.

             Get it on your iPhone,
             free in the App Store.

So the challenge is, what can we say for "You're going down" (meaning: "You're going to LOSE!") niNa'vi?

Quote from: LAT Creative Director"We would like a line that communicates 'you are going down' or 'you are going to lose'. This fits with the tone and spirit of our game. Please feel free to have fun with it.

"I can't wait to see what you come with. :) "

Quote from: Paul FrommerIdeally the line should be something that fits in with Na'vi life and culture. The example I first thought of was, "Ikranìl yìyom ngeyä teylut" -- "An ikran is about to eat your teylu." But that's too derivative of the "eat your lunch" expression in English. The Community can come up with something much better.

Keep it short! And if there's a great concept but a vocabulary item or two is missing, not to worry--I'll fill in the blank.

The time frame is tight, since March 7 is fast approaching.

The reward is having your Na'vi published in the Los Angeles Times, even if it is an advertisement.

Fìtìkangkemìri, sìlpey oe, ayngaru prrte' livu!

Pawl

So, please submit your ideas (ideally completely in Na'vi with an explanation in English (and your native language too if that is helpful to you and it's not English) to this topic by 7:00 PM Friday, 19 February (California time (PST)). A poll will then be created for voting and voting will continue community-wide through 5:00 PM Sunday, 21 February (PST) over the weekend. The top items in terms of popularity will be submitted to Karyu Pawl.

The schedule is very tight, so don't waste any time and coming up with something creative!

Eyaye Tskxe

I love it how Frommer includes our community in so many ways!

I have two suggestions:

Slu alaksì tsaywon ne'ìm kelku, tawtute!

Slu alaksì "to cry" sa'nuti, tawtutel!

I'm interested to see other people's inputs! This sounds like it could yield some very fun results!  ;D

'eylan na'viyä

this is my try:
<fall(futur)> sawtutel ne kllte pxel skxet

Maybe a bit offensive  :D

ha ayfì'u livu tìsrung ayngaru a ngal rayun 'u nulsìltsan <-only a comment

ps: i think this topic is worth it being added to the forum-news, so more people see it within the short time period

bagget00

I will be your toruk. Toruk does mean last shadow right? Not just a name for the creature. If I understand the movie correctly.
"meoauniaea" (meh-oh-ah-oo-nee-ah-eh-ah). "Don't ask me what it means - I haven't assigned a meaning yet. But I love the word!" Frommer said.

"Latin and Zombies. Technically dead, but still influencing society."

Here's a few random ideas tossed out, trying to go off metaphor here rather than English concepts of defeat...

(Ay)oe rayol fpe (ay)ngeyä tìterkup ye'rìn

Fenghrrap kolame ngeyä tìza'u
Fenghrrapìl ngaru peng awngeyä ultxat

Fìuvan <last> ngeyä (layu)

Slayu ngeyä täftxu (undone)

And a use of our apparently shiny new causative infix, though with a few missing words and a grammatical assumption that the causative can be used with transitive verbs....
(ay)<queue>-ri(-r?) <eyk-ay-lose - as in lost item> (ay)oel (ay)ngat

I'll see if I can think of some more, but maybe mine will inspire others to come up with something.
Ftxey lu nga tokx ftxey lu nga tirea? Lu oe tìkeftxo.
Listen to my Na'vi Lessons podcast!

My ideas so far:

Oel ngati tivakuk ne kllte.

Oel ngati ne kllte mivun'i.

Skìyeva'a ngat oel.

Nga kepxan lu.

Pretty basic sentences, but my brain is quite sleep-deprived at the moment. XD
Kaltxì frapo!  Oel Na'viti nerumeie.  Oeyä Na'vi kesìltsan längu slä fratrr fteria.

Ummm... that link to the Causative infix is faulty; should be http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Na%27vi/Verbs#Pre-first_position:_Valency%22 and scroll down to "Pre-first position: Valency".

nga/ngenga-ru le-kxeyey          l<iy><äng>u/l<iy><ei>u

(I thought that I could derive from "kxeyey" the "fail" with le-)

nga/ngenga-ri l<iv>ok ne kllte

Makxarrios

This is what i think of....
if it's about the Oscar...

Ngal ikranit kä'em kayetsun(You won't be able to go on the ikran)
Ngal torukit kä'em kayetsun(You won't be able to go on the toruk)

Ngal ikranit kesi tsaheylu kayetsun.(You won't be able to do tsaheylu to the ikran)
Ngal torukit kesi tsaheylu kayetsun.(You won't be able to do tsaheylu to the toruk)

Ngari kayetsun toruk makto.(You won't be the toruk rider.)

The sentences above are all telling the meaning of "you won't be success". like "you'll fall".

My Na'vi is not good enough to translate it, but I know the words exist: "Palulukan has come for you."   Alternately Toruk, if you think he's a more badass threat, but I favor the evil black kitty. <3

...Yeah, just tried to put that sentence together for myself and still have no idea how to conjugate anything. :/

new ones..
I am still thinking hard to find one that fits to Oscar

Kaltxì Palulukan!

I take it we don't have a word for "down," then.

The rest of the (original) sentence writes itself. Simply add a future tense and a pejorative infix.

(But I do love the trash-talk ideas--great for pick-up games of basketball)
2022 update: Working on the new astrology book. "How to read tarot" books are on Amazon, if you are into that sort of thing.
Okay, so the old podcast is here: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/radioavatar It was goofy fun that ended too soon, but we had creative people. I hope we can get a new gang together (interested? PM me, let's make some magic!)
(Very old, outdated) Na'vi FUN activity book is here: But what are you doing? Let me know! :)
