I've done some native Mac development before.  Once you get an application up, I can probably port it over.

I began working on it today, and I have finished a basic UI and search function which searches thru a local, pretty unfilled database. When I heard that I would get the source code from Taronyu, I assumed he meant the source code for the web version, which I assume are written PHP and fetches the Data from MySQL. My plan at that point was to make something in PHP that could generate a new database file for my application, and in that way it would be easy in the future to update my applications word database. This is of course not to much use unless FOX decides to open up the language, so that it can be develop properly.

Tanhì Tireafya'o: I looked at you application, and it seems that it tries to connect to a database, but fail to do so, leaving me with this error message: "System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified".

For all of you that want to see a Linux/OSX version, I'm sorry to say that the only way to support it is to use another language, and C# .NET is the only language that I master right now, So you will probably have to hope on someone else.

Anyway, I have a screenshot of my early version, if you want to see what it looks like. What's not shown in the screenshot is that you will see the phonetic writing of a word when you hold you mosu over it. I'm also planning to implement support for audio playback. Kinda like the one that exist on the website.

Hahaha fair enough. :)

Well... it kinda ties in to something I'm working on so if noone has done one suitable for ix/osx when the time comes then I might knock one up.

Think it's the programs it uses missing. Don't exactly what it you need to have installed. (Only added the System.XML in project references) Not that experienced with programming. It worked on my PC and Seabass' since he replied a while ago. I'll be figuring out what's the problem.

An status update on the development!

I have ran into a minor setback at the moment, half of the sourcecode for the project is now missing, but luckely, I still have the core files. What remains now is that some old code will be rewritten, and then I will probably fix an application that can parse the .csv files downloadable from this site and convert them to datafiles for my application.

I hope that I will be able to release the first Beta version before this weekend!

Good news everyone! I have located the flash drive wich contains the missing sourcecode! Which means that I have a fully functional application and only need to fill upp the word database. Hopefully this can be done tomorrow.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

I have updated the words databse with fonetic writing for about half of the words now. This new updated version is downloadable from the link below:

http://haxalot.com/navidict/navidict-0.2.1-beta.zip

The rest of the application remains unchanged, the only difference is in the "words.bef" file.

My uncle's dog came over a little less than one week ago. I stupidly left the computer plug on the floor. That night, his dog chewed it up. So, the next morning, I go looking for the plug and I find a chewed up piece of metal. I sadly cannot purchase a new plug right now, and my computer's battery is out. I'm at my public library.

Also, I discovered this promising "small business" film company called Mirror Entertainment. It looks really promising: http://www.mirrorente

Do you have any plans for searching with inflected words?  For example, you enter "tayameiaron" and it returns taron as the root word.  If you're not confident in all the rules I could help with that (Possibly even write a C# compare function you can directly use if that's your preference).

That's actually something that I have been planning to do in the future. I can send you the sourcecode to the .dll file, which does all the searching functions. (Wich will make it easyer for an future port to Mono.NET).

This is brilliant.  However, when the rest of the language gets released, it's going to be awhile before you have the full dictionary finished, right?

If we're talking a full dictionary with thousands of words it will take some time, unless I can get my hands on csv file with the words again.
But I have a tool that makes it simple to edit the database files (an create new ones), if I fix that tool up it would be possible for the community to help. :)
