Hello, brothers and sisters. For the sake of art, I have something to say.

My, my, that sounds very dramatic and formal.  :P Anyway, the rest of this message is not.

I am a regular on DeviantArt, and have not noticed a group for speaking Na'vi! So, I must ask, would anyone want to help create and develop a LearnNavi group on DeviantArt?

Here are my thoughts:
Deviations submitted there will not be art of the Na'vi, as there are about five other groups dedicated to that. Instead, I was thinking that all deviations will be text that includes:
- Guides to the Na'vi language
- Paragraphs in Na'vi for practice, translating, and critiquing purposes
- Sentences in Na'vi for practice, translating, and critiquing purposes

Since this is my idea, I will be the founder, and I am seeking staff help from members here on LearnNavi; preferably people who at least have a basic grasp at the Na'vi language. I am no Na'vi master, but I can at least teach the basics.

Regarding the name of this group, and the avatar, I have some ideas, but I am not sure of any of them:

Should the name be written in Na'vi?
Should it be a Na'vi word?
Perhaps just "LearnNavi"
Or... 'IvongNa'vi?
Kelutrel?

Please brainstorm, even if you are not a member of DeviantArt! Feel free to lend ideas to this cause! :)

Great idea. In fact, let's take it a step further:

If only there was a website where you could get all of those things, be able to discuss the language, exchange conversations in Na'vi, work together on producing new Na'vi materials and resources, and be kept informed of language developments originating from Dr. Frommer himself...

1: Oooh Oooh! (waves hand, bounding in my seat) Pick me! Pick me! I have a Na'vi language book! (um... it needs art :( )

2: I write books. I also PUBLISH old books. Let me tell you something sonny. There is NO SUCH THING as too much web-exposure. We have, what 3,000 members? How many people saw Avatar? A billion? We need on BILLION dollars (er... members). Yes--more websites need to support the language, so that more websites POINT TO Learnnavi.org

(I wil take my bow now  ;D )
2022 update: Working on the new astrology book. "How to read tarot" books are on Amazon, if you are into that sort of thing.
Okay, so the old podcast is here: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/radioavatar It was goofy fun that ended too soon, but we had creative people. I hope we can get a new gang together (interested? PM me, let's make some magic!)
(Very old, outdated) Na'vi FUN activity book is here: But what are you doing? Let me know! :)

If you're bowing, I'm applauding. :D I'm just not convinced that this will add anything to the lives to the Na'vi learners here, or be particularly helpful in terms of promotion. I didn't say that to be mean (honestly), just that if Suteyä Hawnuyu is going to put lots of time into the project then he should think about whether the rewards are going to balance the effort.

That's a personal choice thing.

Hell, look at the time I put into the rhyming dictionary, and I didn't expect *anyone* to use that so I'm not actually saying don't do it.

Well I just added it as "backmatter" to the A.Book (over 60 pages now!), so a LOT of people are going to be seeing your dictionary now--first hand. I am adding it right behind my crappy songs, to get people interested in writing poetry and songs (using your AWESOME dictionary--I have karmaed you a bit for that dictionary--it IS a lot of work, isn't it?)

I've been asking around a bit to see if anyone is interested in a DevART group (even posted a thread, but no one responded). I even almost went and made one, but decided not to until I knew people were actually interested. I think it would be great to have a group on dA where we Na'vi nerds can just chill and throw sentences at each other. I'd be glad to help out with it, if you need any.

Here's to not knowing exactly what you're saying and having fun with it.

You should start one anyways. When we started this board, we had like 40 people on the mailing list, look how far weve come in 6 weeks time! You never know how much attention you will draw until you try.

Okay, artists:

Here's a question? Whose up for doing some "helpful Na'vi art?" I am just asking, as I have had this idea, but I just don't have the artistic skill (read: "any") to pull it off. I might as well spell it out here (in short), just in case anyone reading this wants to help me help others:

the activity book is currently heavy on exercises and puzzles (which anyone can design) and a bit "light in the loafrs" when it comes to activities. One thing I want to do is a sentence maze. It is a on page black and white thing--thing mapped out with a felt-tip pen, or even a sharpie (by talented hands of course) NO SHADING. Basically Little Red Riding Na'vi (get it? It's the Eastern Sea Clan leader as a girl--cause she likes the color red, and she rides ikran...) Anyway, she is (prepare yourself--it only gets worse) picking word bits (that look strangely like apples) on her way to:

Grammar's house.

Yes--I said it. And I am not apologizing. Along the way there is the Big Bad Colonel (He is more "the wolf," than the helpful huntsman), and Palulukan (Thanator--but no stupid pink bow), and of course Toruk is in one corner of the maze, but he is on your side. If you can make it to him, he gives you a free ride over Palulukan to --> Grammar's house. yes, I said it again.

The maze is nothing more than word particles. I will figure that part out. (You start with OE, as we all do) and you can add -ri, or -l, or -ti, or -ya(with the dot over the a), BUT, not all of these options are correct! hence the maze.

Anyway, the art is basically a house in the bottom corner (and I think we all know whose house it is), Palu hiding in the bushes on one side, the Colonel in an AMP suit on the other side, and various trees (you see, she has to get through the forest) to make it a "maze." I am calling it "cartoon line art" as that is the only way I know how to describe it. Okay, so that's what i need. the job doesn't pay, and I am an unfeeling ogre who eats orphaned children for lunch--preferably after they have been working in salt mines for  several years. But if you want to help people learn Na'vi through art, PM me. Thanks for reading this either way.

Yeah, yeah, I get your drift. :P I'm trying to create more awareness in the DeviantArt community, as Avatar is very big there, and I think that many people would be interested in learning.

Haha, that's ridiculous! I would definitely draw for you, but my cartoon skills are terrible. I even tried to draw out some of your characters on pape. FAIL. Epic FAIL.

Alright, I've gone and done it. I submitted the DevGroup LearnNavi for review, and it's undergoing approval. I'll keep you guys posted as to when it's official, and give you the links as well.
If anyone else wants to be an admin or the like in the group, please tell me over PM. 'specially you, Suteyä Hawnuyu. Seeing as you posted this and all and I did was just brashly went ahead and made the group. Also, I am by no means very experienced in speaking Na'vi, so if there's any Grammar Na'zis out there who are on DevART, please let me know.

EDIT: also, Suteyä Hawnuyu, if there's any way to credit you with making the group officially, I'll look into it. I feel sort of bad about making the group now, but I figured enough people were interested that we'd be able to probably get it off the ground.

And here it is!

The Learn Na'vi DevART group has been approved and is now active! If you've got a DevART account, I invite you to join.
Also, if you'd like any sort of leadership position, I'd appreciate it if you PM me or note me (username Aeroflyte) with a request. The request should include a link to your DevART page as well as a short paragraph saying what you've done on the Learn N'vi forums, how competent you think you are in Na'vi, and why you think you should be approved. At this point I want to make sure the group gets off to a good start, so I apologize if you are not accepted as an admin.

Well, the "Learn Na'vi the Easy Way" activity book (<---download it here!!) seems to be pretty popular, and I am hoping to get it downlaoded several thousands of times. It needs a new cover--a Na'vi cover, so if you would like serious (and even casual) Na'vi language students to see your work, would you mind designing a cover?

It could be ANYTHING you want, but keep in mind that professor Frommer, FOX, or even someone who worked on the movie might see it. So make sure it had my name on it! :)

Seriously, I would love it if you wanted to do up and 8 1/2 x 11 image WITH the existing text on it--and your name under mine ad the cover designer. Lemmeno!
