I would like to make my own MMORPG as I had an idea for one before i went to sleep and remembered it in the morning, however, i have no idea how to program or what game engines are good, would anyone have any advice? I was considering attempting to gain the Unrealo engine or something like that for the game.

Well, What'd I say... People will say that You should learn Java, or other languages of that type, but  I think that You should learn C++. It's not that hard and it's the most universal. Then try to learn an graphic library like Allegro, OpenGL, DirectX or SDL. If You want 3d graphics, most of them has it own 3d part, but You can also (like me) write Your own 3d Engine (I can send You all projection, rotation and movement algorithms, just PM me). Then learn an server library, which will allow You to create a server that users will be able to connect to. Then all You've got to do is write it, Alfa-test it, Beta-test it and that's it. It'll probably take a year but it should be worth it. Besides I can help You, just PM me.

it WOULD take a year or so if oe had smaller ideas, if oe'm (i'm?) thinking right this might take up to 5 years to make... my idea is huge...

Take Your time... You want to write it, or someone else? Also try to write something 'bout it.

Ps.: Oe'm? I'd try Oe'u (like Oe lu).

Tíngay outíngay

What do nga mean "'bout it"? Oe'u still getting my idea down on paper.

You know, like, what it will be 'bout, where and when exactly, how the gameplay should look, how many FPS... But if You haven't ended the projecting yet, we can wait.

Ps.: Are You sure that You want to use two languages at once? I found pretty annoying when Polish say sentences like: "Looknij no za łindoł"...

Tíngay outíngay

good point, ill get to work on it now-ish

uhm, just in case

3d artist + python programmer (I think c++ isnt that hard to learn, if you can speak one programming language)

I think its a very creative idea, but on one side i feel bad for u since its a hell of a job which u cant do all by yourself :P
I mean.. it depends, what do you have in mind? Something like WoW or in Rs quality?  ;D

My dream is that it will eventually be bigger than WoW :P im using the UDK because
A. its a free version of extremely expensive software with all of the features of the major software
B. because of the graphics power
One of the points that i felt WoW fell down on was the graphics, its got good design and playability but the graphics were a lot meh

Is it compatible with C++?

I don't think so, it apparently usus unrealscript, i might look into other game engines but ATM UDK is looking good. im also looking at Irrlicht but im not sure what kind of graphics it does, UDK is a free version of UE3 (unreal engine 3) used in gears of war 1 and 2 and unreal tournament 3

No, UDK does not allow C++ code to be used with it.
May I suggest taking a look at the Ogre3D rendering engine if you wish to use C++, but without all the hassle of being tied to a specific renderer (be it DirectX or OpenGL). Take a look through the gallery to see what can be achieved with it.

I will warn you though that a single developer will kelu able to cope with the work of producing a complete game (especially an MORPG). There is simply too much to be done. I would start recruiting people here who can program, but also since you want good graphics, some good designers/3d artists.

I am not just one developer, im just one school student :) im getting VS and ogre to have a look now

Whatever you are going to do with it :P i wish you goodluck. And if you need any help i will sure help, not that i know anything about creating games  ::)

like I said, 3d artist, work on demand :)

I know you are asking for help, but I just wanted to say that I can't wait for this. I wish you best of luck and, remember, you have an entire community to help, so don't get discouraged if you're in a "programmers block." Good luck!
My uncle's dog came over a little less than one week ago. I stupidly left the computer plug on the floor. That night, his dog chewed it up. So, the next morning, I go looking for the plug and I find a chewed up piece of metal. I sadly cannot purchase a new plug right now, and my computer's battery is out. I'm at my public library.

Also, I discovered this promising "small business" film company called Mirror Entertainment. It looks really promising: http://www.mirrorente

I will offer my couple of years of experience using C++ (on various platforms, currently Linux), my understanding of 3d graphics, and some time. Just plltxe.  :)

Ezy Ryder

I could make some background music if needed. And as I said before, five or six years off C++.
