Here's a beginner submission (I know that my grammar is atrocious) :

Oeyä 'upxare law lu
Atan ngeyäta menari sevin lu
'Awsiteng, oeng 'ong
Oeyä txe'lan na au

Translation:

My message is clear
The light from your eyes is beautiful
Together, we blossom
My heart is like a drum

Oh, I am stealing that. Gots' me a date this Friday! Of course I will be taking credit for my romantic "skillz."
2022 update: Working on the new astrology book. "How to read tarot" books are on Amazon, if you are into that sort of thing.
Okay, so the old podcast is here: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/radioavatar It was goofy fun that ended too soon, but we had creative people. I hope we can get a new gang together (interested? PM me, let's make some magic!)
(Very old, outdated) Na'vi FUN activity book is here: But what are you doing? Let me know! :)

I think it's OKish to translate some provided you credit the original poet. For example, my main entry atm is a translation of one of Shakepseare's sonnets.

Dude, that's one of my all time favourites, and now it's in Na'vi. You rock! ;D

I picked a sonnet I knew vaguely well (albeit only from English lessons) and its was this or let me not and I preferred this one too.

I just wrote something off of the top of my own head.

I suppose it is more interesting to translate poems and stories people already know.

The idea is to have fun and embarrass yourself by writing bad poetry (see MY bad poetry in an earlier post!). You see, even after Valentine's day, there is Mother's day, Flag Day, Groundhog Day. And who doesn't have a birthday? Ting is having a birthday on the 15th. If you need inspiration, why not make HER a Valentine's themed birthday card (in Na'vi)? Of course, don't tell her I said so, or that i was too lazy to open up Star Office (freeware MS Word clone) to grab that fancy "i" she uses in hr name.

:)

Great idea!

Okay, I can't win a prize because I got this translation direct from Paul Frommer. (We interviewed him for the website I run: www.lemondrop.com/2010/01/26/avatar-pick-up-lines-talk-dirty-in-Navi), and then, just today, posted our Na'vi Valentine we created.

but some of yours look awesome, too. feel free to come check ours out, and share yours here:

I read the interview (for the first time--oops! I have been a bit buried in Na'vi work), and I love the Na'vi Valentine's Card!

is that illegal here, or can we just post it and enter as a team?

Category: not a newbie, not an expert... so... everyone else :P?

OK, here's my translation of a little poem:

Trrmì Välentaynä aSwok,
Ke'u akawng ke tsun tivok.
Zene lrrtok sivi frapo fìtrr,
Taluna fìtrr lu tìyawnä krr.
Mipa sì'eylanit nìftxavang ngop,
Slä nari si yola ayfkoru kop,
Taweyka ayfko amip Pxorna lu,
Ulte ayfko ayol lu Mauti Utu.

That means (or at least I wanted it to mean :P):
In the Saint Valentine's Day,
Any evil cannot exist.
Everyone should be smiled,
Because today is the time of love.
Make new friends,
But care about old ones,
Because new ones are Pxorna,
And old ones are Utu Mauti.

By "Pxorna" i ment something like "silver", and by "Utu Mauti" - "gold". As we know, Pxorna is important for Na'vi, but Utu Mauti is their real delicacy. ("Because new ones are silver, and old ones are gold.")

PS. Oh, I can see that there is not many people with rhymes in their poems ;D.

Oer wivìntxu ngal oey keyeyt krr a tse'a sat. Frakrr.

of course you can! You will just have to share the (completely worthless) prize--if you win. but half the fun is writing bad poetry! :D

Translation:

Nicholas,
Your mind is strong, and you're handsome
But often I don't understand what you do/your actions
I smile because you speak with me (trying to avoid the tricky "when")
Your voice is like a song
I feel funny via/following this time [when] I am with you (well, nevermind avoiding "when")
But I think that you are beloved to me
And this day is Love-Day
Therefore, I ask you...
Am I also beloved to you?
Also, if you say no, I will happily kill you.

I thew the last line in there because we've been dating for two years, so he'd darn well better love me! (In the same vein, I am not sure why I said "I think you are beloved to me." Blech. Poetic license.)

Grammar insecurities: Line five...trying to say "when" in a non-interrogative way. And the last line...it's all hypothetical, and I know there's something I have to add in grammar-wise because of that, but I don't know what.

Formerly Kerofish, in case you were wondering. Also occasionally known as kerofish1 or Delaney. Call me anything, just not skxawng!
