Kaltxì Palulukan!

I made this for the mods, grammar police, grammar nazis, and anyone else who knows more Na'vi than I do (which is probably most people here).

I'd say "have fun! :)"

but that is not my purpose in creating this puzzle. My purpose is to inflict pain. If it is not hard enough I will endeavor to create one even worse.

Okay, so the old podcast is here: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/radioavatar It was goofy fun that ended too soon, but we had creative people. I hope we can get a new gang together (interested? PM me, let's make some magic!)
(Very old, outdated) Na'vi FUN activity book is here: But what are you doing? Let me know! :)

Is that more evil than this one? :D

(Though mine's just straight dictionary definitions...  I'm trying to learn the standard crossword clue styles so I can write actual clues...)

Edit: Pak, this is more evil than I thought, because I had a few typos in my dictionary :(

I won't be actually updating the pdf, just noting the mistakes here.

7 down is misspelled (Vowels are swapped)
33 across is missing the glottal stop
135 down has what I believe is a SG mistaken spelling of peyfa for *pefya
176 across is missing the clue of "Child" (It was a duplicate word in the dictionary; and also appears twice in the puzzle)

If anyone finds any more let me know

(BTW, if you haven't figured it out, the letter pairs "px", "tx", "kx", "ts" and "ng" all get written as one letter in this puzzle, representing that they are different consonant sounds rather than literal pairs of letters.)

BTW, you're getting featured as the Na'vi daily crossword for Sunday :D  (A day late, as I've heard Saturday is supposed to be the hardest of the week, and Sunday's is just big but not so hard.)

Is it to be a compeition then?

Oh, I simply MUST try my hand at your puzzle! This will be fun!

As to crossword clues. I find the most pernicious ones specifically describe the word (or in this case the "English equivalent") but instead of saying "Vision" as a clue for the Na'vi word äie, it seems more challenging to use truly horrific terms like: process of the eyes, or physical sight, to make people come up with the term vision. I have tried to stay clear of being too far off, and I certainly do not want to misrepresent or misinterpret any Na'vi word, so I have tried to be careful.

(EDIT): Basically I see people wrapping their minds around the word concept, not just zipping to a translation without any mental effort.

But (in-/pre-/suf-/fixes are the rule of the day for anything more difficult, and I strongly recommend examples, descriptions, and allusions for clue usage so that the puzzle solvers won't simply trade one word for another without accessing the parts of their brain that cement meaning. Okay, I am going to try YOUR puzzle. Thank you!

EDIT: This is a really good puzzle! omängum fra'uti (not mine, his). Everyone should try it. I am printing it out to do it on paper a few times (one to two weeks apart).

And then my ears. I understand! Let's get on with it...

(No I didn't look it up...  Well, I didn't look it up to know what it was, I did look it up to get what he says a few lines later in response, I was thinking it was nari not mikyun.)

And in response to the rest....

Yeah I figured infixes, prefixes, suffixes, and (Evillest of all) short plurals are the rule of the game.

But I also know that there are certain terms or ways of wording thing in crossword clues that convey certain meanings.  Such as "returning after the third time?" indicating that it will be offbeat/punny by adding the ? onto the clue.  (The answer being fourthcoming).

One thing that will get interesting is that the tense of the clue typically is used to convey the tense of the word.  (IE returning = coming in the above example.)  But since English tense and Na'vi tense don't quite line up...

Is it ears? dammit! Now I have to look it up! (brb . . . sigh). I need more (cranial) space!

(EDIT): " I don't think I'm quite familiar with that phrase."

You know, that may be my favorite line of the movie. He just stops dead and politely quips that.

Yes, and technically memikyun too.

So...  Evil?  Not so much...  It was nice having different clues than just the definition to work off of, and I've finished it up to my knowledge of vocabulary allows.  (Probably 5-10 words not filled in)

I'm not updating the actual crossword, if I made a new one it'd be completely new, as it's auto-generated.  I'm just noting what is incorrect.

I C . . .

I just found some killer crossword software. I was doing them on paper, then transferring them into a photo editor (GIMP) and then into Word. Mistakes and intensive labor. This slashes both by a factor of about 8 or 9, so I am seriously happy now.

Heh, funny I was solving yours in gimp...

Which are you using now?  I've been doing mine with Magnum Opus.  It's one of the few I found that didn't balk at the full Na'vi phonetics.  It takes....  a minute to make a new crossword if I'm being lazy?

Right now I'm going through and making an alternate dictionary that is more crossword clue like, hopefully not TOO obscure though.  I figure I'll stick with definitions maybe with inflections thrown in most the time, but occasionally throw in something more advanced.

funny you should mention that. I just downloaded Open Office so I can delete MS "Crap." As I am doing that, I have been building a word list in the new crossword software. unfortunately I am deeply disappointed by the lack of punctuation and have been so far avoiding words with apostrophes (which leaves about . . . 3).

hmm . . . I am using something (free) called . . . Eclipse Crossword. It is easy and pleasant, other than the lack of punctuation. I should check out this Magnum Opus. (A minute--it took me 3 days to create the one I uploaded--WITH mistakes).
