These ikrans are so beautiful, that I created two for myself too. It is not hard, so everyone can do that. I'd like to share some notes for followers to make production easier:

  • thicker material is harder to cut, but stitches are better hidden, so final look is better
  • it is good idea to create head first, as it consists of many parts. First sew bottom and top parts of head together, add eyes and antenas. I sew antena from one piece only - I create tubule from fleece and put some stick inside. It is good idea to use stick long enough so also antena tip is reenforced (in fact I didn't do it - must use it in next model)
  • I Attached antena from inside of head - I created a hole in upper head part and put antena through this hole, then sew from inside (looks better)
  • Now you can sew together left and right part of the head and put filling
  • create tail and wings. There's no problem, simply sew them and fill. But for wings add a few milimeters to straight side of the wing for better connection with body
  • Now cut the body, also add some milimeters at part where top a bottom part of body will sewed together. I think body should be a little longer. Sew bottom parts together, top parts must be separated !
  • now sew bottom and top body part with wings. You get central part of ikran, but upper body is still open = not sewed. It is important!
  • connect and sew head and tail
  • last operation - fill in body and sew upper body part. During this process, fill body as necessary
Threads should be ended inside of ikran, I do it by double knot to be more secure. Use threads in color near to color of material - it makes stitches less visible. You can try sew part inside out and turn them correctly after sewing, but it is problematic for wings. I think the only part where you can use this technology, is bottom body part.
That's all. I there's interest, I can provide more instructional pictures - when I'll be creating bigger ikran. This one (if you use pattern in 100% scale) is about 22 cm long, wing spread about 16 cm.
As for material - fleece is the best, felt can be used too (but I think price is comparable). I got some remainders of fleece from my wife's mother, and also bought in closeout sale some "fleece" blankets (not real fleece, but very similar), 130 * 170 cm per cca 3,5 USD (good price). Threads can be used of any type, if it is too thin, double it (I do it always). For filling I used old pillow, new one can be bought for 2 USD (if you are lucky)

Wow, ma Blue Elf! Those instructions are about as complex as if I gave you instructions for working in rigid RF transmission line....

I get the impression that you have some experience doing this already, as you really do make it sound easy. Luckily, I have one of Omatacayaclan's ikrans, and it has an honored place in the house. (I have officially namd it 'Taronyu').

Still, I have toyed with the idea of making another one, or trying something more challenging, like a palulukan. The larger size is better, as it is easier to do the blind sewing.

Well, if someone would create pattern for palulukan or different creature, I'll try it too.
Ikrans are popular for my children, so I must create another one.

although the tail is wrong here.  The right tail is here:

I still haven't actually made this plushie, but >.> it's not for beginners.  There are a lot of very small pieces.  also, if you do attempt to make it, I DO NOT reccommend the kind of material OC was using for her ayikran.  This needs a non-fraying, strong but THIN material such as microsuede

Blue Elf

Oh, hell, it will not be easy! Have you any instructions how to put all these parts together? Also some picture how it looks like would be helpful, but as they don't exist...

I could make instructions if you seriously want to try it.  Those are just the reference and size sketches I made for myself, so of course not everything is labeled, etc. 8)

I have a half-made one, but I was using the wrong sort of material and so I had to abandon it.  Woven materials WILL unravel, and when you're trying to sew pieces that are only 1/2cm wide you just can't avoid it.

Blue Elf

Well, I'd like to try first create paper model to see how things go together, then I decide if I can to create it or not. So any advice how it should be constructed is helpful.
Small parts are always problem, I know and material selection isn't easy too.

This will be so worth it when I get the money, would you do patterns mixed in with solid fills?

`Eylan Ayfalulukanä

To get around the small parts problem, consider making palulukan larger. This should also give you more choices in materials. It does not have to sit on the shoulder, although that would be cute  ::)
