I spend a lot of time at my desk, or at various workstations at my job. When nothing is going on on the computer during these times, it would be really useful if the screensaver would help drill me in Na`vi vocabulary. I am appealing to either 1.) A Windows programmer who would know how to create such a beast, or 2.) Someone who knows of an existing screen saver program that could be adapted to this purpose by adding/changing content.

I would like this to function as follows: A Na`vi word is put on the screen, in random locations for 5-10 seconds (should be adjustable). The word would then fade out, and be replaced by its meaning. What would be really nice is if the part of speech or use, as well as the IPA pronunciation would also appear with the word. This would stay on the screen for 5-10 seconds. Then a new word would appear, and so on.

The program would be able to work from a CSV file or something similar, like what has been set up for Jmemorize. It should be easy to add words to with a text editor, etc. Not as important, but kind of nice would be the ability to turn on and off different groups of words. Let's say, you didn't want to learn Na`vi flora and fauna, so you could shut off that group of words. But I do want to learn flora and fauna, so I would like the option of being able to include these words without having to manually enter them. This would break down to areas like number words, adpositions, proper names, short words, affixes/infixes, etc.

Although I am not much of a programmer, and especially a Windows programmer, I would help out any way I could.

Irayo in advance!

Heh, that's a good idea! Now to wait for someone to make it...

That actually wouldn't be too hard. Just set up a file and take pictures of the Na'vi word and it's meaning, maybe on a whiteboard or a chalkboard, and put all the jpg files into that file, then set it as your screensaver. I think putting the Na'vi word and the English word on the sane slide would work better in case you might want to set it to "random". It would take some time though, considering all the words we have now.

SOME time?!? It would take forever (to do every word)
It would probably be best just to do a small selection of useful words.

Yeah, one could start with that. I, for one, whould start with nouns. Then I personally would do question words because I NEVER remember those. I have a lot of time on my hands though but not everybody does ;)

Now, I wonder if one could re-write the saver that shows the Windows logo so that it shows Na'vi words...that I couldn't do b/c I don't speak code...lol.

Tell you what, if I can figure out how to do it a simple way, I'll post the results here. Cuz I have an idea...

Nvm, it didn't work. Who knew that you couldn't set PowerPoint as an automatic screensaver?

Not me, but now I do.  :D

I'm surprised you can't, actually.

Sorry.. but im not surprised :P
Such easy things always require the most difficult programs, ridiculous actually xD

I guess I'm just going to have to stick with my original plan: taking pictures of things and then photoshopping the Na'vi word in, making a HUGE file and then letting it take up a million gigs on my harddrive :P

1 million Gigabytes = 1,000 Terabytes = 1 Petabyte ;)

Actually, you might not need to write the word somewhere and then photshop it, why not just write it in paint and save it? Or if you want the thing you are writing to appear as a picture, there's always clip art.... just an idea though, it might be faster... :-\
But I like this, I'll try few ideas I have, see if they work....
