Yafkeyk nìNa'vi
« on: April 03, 2015, 12:06:58 pm »
I made a little web page where you can get current weather information for all cities on Earth in Na'vi. Go to this page, enter your city, press the button, and read the weather ;)

I want to add some more info, for example the prediction for the next few days. Ideas on how to further improve this are welcome :)

There are 5 Pandoras in the US:

    Pandora (Colorado)
    Pandora (Ohio)
    Pandora (Tennessee)
    Pandora (Texas)
    Pandora (Washington)

    Ya lu wew (somwew lu 5 °C).
    Taw lu tstu (lu ayfìwopx mì 88 % tawä).

I see that you did there. :P
It still the same for (Neu-)Ulm. Looking for Munich I see Tìran hufwetsyìp (1 km/h, ftu 335 °).
What about "Stum ke lu kea hufwe" (Almost no wind)

Good idea, done :)

I tried fixing it before, by setting the threshold for the "ke lu kea hufwe" text to 0.5 km/h instead of 1 km/h. But this fix is better :)

Maybe an option to show the numbers in base 8, or would that be too much coding? :P

Irayo ma smuk! :D

Wou! Sunu oer nìtxan ma tsmukan!

Okay, I added that, but I think it may make the information a bit unclear:

Quote from: Yafkeyk nìNa'vi
    Ya lu wew (somwew lu °4 °C).
    Taw lu tstu (lu ayfìwopx mì °114 % tawä).
    Tìran hufwetsyìp (°3 km/h, ftu °407 °).
So many °-signs ;D

Also, when having a percentage in octal, it seems more logical to me to have a per-zam-tage instead of a percentage, so that the scale goes from °0 % to °100 % instead of from °0 % to °144 % (since 100 = °144)...

Hmm, maybe I should just remove those numbers and replace them by a more elaborate description, since the Na'vi obviously don't use the °C and km/h scales either... Suggestions are welcome! :)

What about writing it as,

    Ya lu wew (somwew lu 48 °C).
    Taw lu tstu (lu ayfìwopx mì 1148 % tawä).
    Tìran hufwetsyìp (38 km/h, ftu 4078 °).

And about 10010% vs. 1008%, yup it should be per-zam instead per centum. ;D
But this becomes a bit complicated, especially the degree...

Btw, what do you have written for wind with 200km/h? Hufwe a ska'a fra'ut? :P

Okay, I used the ...8 notation now. It is clearer indeed :)

Btw, what do you have written for wind with 200km/h? Hufwe a ska'a fra'ut? :P

Okay, added :P

Code: (JavaScript) [Select]
    if (wind < 1) {
        return "Stum ke lu kea hufwe"
    } else if (wind < 3) {
        return "Tìran hufwetsyìp"
    } else if (wind < 7) {
        return "Tìran hufwe"
    } else if (wind < 200) {
        return "Tul hufwe"
    } else {
        return "Hufwe a ska'a fra'ut"
    }

More suggestions are welcome! If we can find more gradations in wind speed, I can just remove the actual wind speed in km/h... :)

I'd suggest:
  • kea hufwe
  • hufwetsyìp tìran
  • hufwe tìran
  • hufwe tul
  • hufwe tul nìwin
  • hufwe lehrrap nìtxan
  • hufwe a ska'a fra'ut
However for appropriate speeds ask someone who is good at meteorology...

Is this the complete windlist?

My suggestion after taking a look at the Beaufort scale:

Code: (JavaScript) [Select]
    if (wind < 1) {
        return "Kea hufwe"
    } else if (wind < 5) {
        return "Stum kea hufwe"
    } else if (wind < 11) {
        return "Hufwetsyìp tìran"
    } else if (wind < 19) {
        return "Hufwe tìran nìnän"
    } else if (wind < 28) {
        return "Hufwe tìran"
    } else if (wind < 38) {
        return "Hufwe tìran nìtxan"
    } else if (wind < 49) {
        return "Hufwe tul nìnän"
    } else if (wind < 61) {
        return "Hufwe tul"
    } else if (wind < 74) {
        return "Hufwe tul nìwin"
    } else if (wind < 88) {
        return "Hufwe tul nìwin nì'ul"
    } else if (wind < 102) {
        return "Hufwe tul nìwin nìtxan"
    } else if (wind < 117) {
        return "Hufwe na yrrapmì"
    } else if (wind < 133) {
        return "Hufwe lehrrap nìnän"
    } else if (wind < 149) {
        return "Hufwe lehrrap"
    } else if (wind < 166) {
        return "Apxa hufwe lehrrap nì'ul"
    } else if (wind < 183) {
        return "Apxa hufwe lehrrap nìtxan"
    } else if (wind < 202) {
        return "Hufwe a ska'a stum fra'ut"
    } else if (wind < 252) {
        return "Hufwe a ska'a fra'ut"
    } else {
        return "Tìska'a nì'aw" // windspeed > 252 km per h for super hurricane, cyclons, typhoons...
    }

Fixed the scale as it meant to be "if wind is smaller than X"...

Karma pxengaru :D It is uploaded now, and except for the temperature in °C I removed the detailed statistics (exact wind speed and cloud coverage). Maybe I should remove the exact temperature as well... :-\

A windspeed of 1000km/h is impossible on earth as well as on pandora. ;)
It's possible on Neptune. ;)
That's why I wrote ''come back to the Earth''. ;)
